  1. I am using IE7 and trying to get into the website Viamichelin. It keeps telling me my PC is refusing cookies. Even when I change the settings it still wont let me in.

I used to use this site with IE6 and I thought I had used it with IE7. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution please (that does not include changing my browser to Firefox etc.).

    Thanks,

  2. Because I have had similar problems in the past, I lined up my 3 special offers first on the tapis today (Auchan Cognac by the way) and mentioned them to the checkout girl. Surprisingly, they all went through correctly - although she kindly said I was quite right to tell her.

Another plus today, when I asked at the photo counter to see a battery charger on special at €14.90 they said they didn't have any so would I like the €29.90 one for €14.90. It was not a tough decision and was the second example of good customer service I've had there recently. Of course it is still hit and miss finding a vendeur/vendeuse for the particular section when you need one - but that's normal everywhere.

  3. We use Generali - but as a broker. The actual mutuelle we are with is Swiss Life. You can choose the level of cover/reimbursement you want and you pay accordingly.

If you search this site there is a lot of info on mutuelles, top up insurance etc.

  4. This is in the paper today:

    http://www.sudouest.com/141106/reg_charente.asp?Article=141106a64266.xml

I've copied the article here as the link only lasts one day I think

  5. Unless someone else knows better.........I would say that he gets the usual letter from Newcastle refusing to extend his E106 (as described elsewhere on the forum) and signs up with CPAM as a French resident. His contributions will then be based upon his French tax return. However, I have no idea if your UK residency has any effect upon the situation, so perhaps someone in a similar position will clarify.

  6. Thanks SD. Perhaps he didn't realise I needed to re-apply. I have now had my French licence for nearly 2 years (not for work and not HGV), so I'm a bit undecided what to do. I suppose I'll start by taking copies of some of your links to the medecin and taking it from there. Thanks again,

  7. SD. This is very interesting as my medecin said nothing about any of these requirements. (I have diabetes controlled by insulin). It would be helpful if you could give me the source of your information so that I can discuss it with him at my next appointment, as, whilst I have very good control, I also want to be legal!!

    Thanks,

  8. I kept my Nationwide Flex account and credit card just with a change of address. If you want a joint account make sure you include your partner before you leave the UK. They won't open or change the account once you are a French resident. We also have Barclays accounts upon which we just changed the address.

Neither bank will accept instructions to pay interest gross - they just refer you to their offshore departments. You can claim it back from the UK taxman though, whilst declaring it in France to the Impots.

  9. Having looked at the page for signing up, I assume I need to give a UK address for the UK Paypal account and then apply again with a French address for the French Paypal account. Sorry if I'm asking the obvious but do they do any sort of credit check on the UK address as, although I can give a UK address I don't have a credit record connected to it as I am resident in France. (The UK bank account is no problem but they use the French address).

    Thanks,

  10. Sorry if this is slightly off-subject. Before we were in a position to buy and move here we holidayed in France every year. I considered the cost of running a maison secondaire to be too high and chose to rent a gite, often in different parts of France, thus helping to discover which areas we liked best. One can hire an awful lot of gites (or stay in hotels come to that) for the running costs of a house and you don't have to spend all your holiday on maintenance, decorating etc. (Nor worrying about it when you're not there).

    Just a thought........
