  1. please can somebody tell me the translation for this?  I need to get my tyre repaired.  thanks
  2. My basil has not been left to flower. If anybody has any idea why it's bitter, I'd love to hear.  I was really looking forward to having some the other day, but it tasted yuk! Thanks  [:)]
  3. basil bitter?  None I grow is .. must be using diff variety to you. Yes, I've used this variety before (lots of it, I'm a basil nut!!  [:D]).  It's not old either (either the seeds or the plant).  can't understand why it's bitter  [:(]
  4. no, herbs are past their best when they flower.
  5. Perhaps you have spelled his name incorrectly when typing it into google? That aside, don't you think it's a little creepy to be investigating somebody in this way?  [8-)]   Would you appreciate it if somebody did it to you?
  6. I picked some basil (from the polytunnel) yesterday and it was incredibly bitter.  Why?  My outdoor basil isn't doing very well - it's hardly growing and is very pale in colour.  It looks positively aneamic!
  7. it is sugar with added pectin.  For use with fruits that have a low pectin content (like strawberries). If you use it with fruits that don't have a low pectin content, you might find that you have a slice of jam, rather than a spoon full.
  8. Personally, if I were staying in a CdH for three weeks, I would fully expect to get the same dinners more than once.  If I ate in a restaurant I wouldn't be able to eat a different meal every night for three weeks. (unless it was a really naff one that had 72 items on the menu!!!!) Don't give yourself too hard a task.  If a dish is scrummy, then don't worry about serving it twice.  I would be happy to eat most things twice over a three week period.
  9. my friend is leaving France and said I can have his Safegom 'house gun'.  It is a 7th category ... 11.6mm (I think). He belives that I just need to have a doctor (UK or French), sign a declaration that I am not mad (or whatever the technical term is!) and there's no reason why I should not have this gun. I'll then need to inform the Prefecture and they will send the Gendarmes around for me to sign a declaration. This was all true when he got this gun but perhaps things have changed in the meantime. Can anybody give me any guidance please? The gun, incidentally, is purely to keep in a safe place in case I am endangered in my own home ... it will never be taken out of the house, used for hunting, or anything like that.  I'd never go and buy one, but as it's going begging I might as well have it. thanks
  10. When watering restrictions are in place (ie, no watering gardens, washing cars, etc before 7pm or after 9am, for instance) .... I assumed this refered only to using water from taps ... and that using water pumped from wells or waterbutts was not included in the restrictions .... can anybody confirm if my assumption is correct? Many thanks
  11. went to see plod.  the said fine, fix it but no need to come and show us you've done it  [:D]    (they also said if I don't do it and get a tug I'll be in BIG trouble!) I can now enjoy the ambience of the ferry port without having to keep my eye out for the police looking for me  [;-)]
  12.  .... for one of the lights on my trailer not working.  I need to take the car/trailer to my local plod station for them to check they have been fixed. I've bought new lights and cable etc and have fitted them up, but having problems getting one of the lights working.  So ... what happens if a) I turn up and one of the lights is not working.  b) I don't turn up at all?  (I once didn't turn up for a 'five day wonder' and nothing happened - I'm guessing this won't be the same over here!!!) I am going to theUK in a few days so can't spend too much time trying to fix this.  Can I not just sassure them the trailer will be off the road until it's fixed fully?   I don't want to turn up at the station only to be given another bloody fine! Any sensible advice gratefully recived. Thanks
  13. You're both wrong - it's a Sugar Candy and is gorgeous [:D] I know a fair bit about clematis, how to plant them and treat them etc, and I have lots doing beautifully so don't need any new ones ... it's just that I've never moved one before.  I don't have the time/inclination to nurture cuttings but maybe I'll have a go with this plant and risk moving it in the dead of winter.  If I dig deep enough I should get enough of it's roots out intact to give it a good chance.  Wish me luck!
  14. I have a gorgeous clematis which is in completely the wrong place (ie, I never see it!)... it has lovely candy pink stripes. I've never had any success with cuttings for clematis (granted I've never tried all that hard with them, which is why they wither and die!)  So, I would love to move it (it's probably about 3-4 years in the ground, but has never thrived tremendously, so it's not a huge size (has about 8 big flowers on it right now though, so not doing to badly.)  Has anybody moved a clematis successfully?  When is the best time to do it?  Or will it just sulk and wither if I move it? Fingers crossed
  15. .... can anybody recommend a good home workout DVD.  For those aimed at those not skinny and used to too much excersise! I was thinking of getting the DVD from the girl in Steps but the music put me off!  And some reveiws that said you need to be really pretty fit to even attempt it. So, any suggestions please? Thanks [:)]
  16. I'm going to use some reclaimed mechanical terecotta type tile to roof a store room adjacent to a house.  Can anybody tell me the minimum pitch required please? Thanks
  17. Haven't flown this route for ages... can anybody tell me how strict they are on checked in luggage and hand luggage?  are they as strict as Ryanair or a little more flexible? Thanks
  18. um ..... yup - that's why I asked  [8-)]
  19. My God woman!  is there nothing you don't know???!!! [:D]    [:D]    [:D]    [:D]    [:D]    [:D]
  20. Can anybody give me an idea of taxi costs in paris (around Notre dame area etc). Trips will only be 2-3km (which is a long way in high heels!!).  Is it madly expensive?
  21. Anybody know where i can buy pectin-sugar?  (Used for making jams with fruits with a low pectin content).... What's it called? thanks
  22. I read somewhere that some on low income don't pay tax d'habitation.  Is this just of OAPs, or does it apply to others of low (or no) income? Thanks
  23. Thanks folks - I should have done a search first [:$] What a great idea (the automatic standby thing).  I don't generally leave it switched on, but occasionally I forget to switch it off, every little helps.  I'll leave the auto standby switched on and then turn it off it I want to record something.
