  1. Hi all Thanks to everyone who responded to my original question. I fully expected widely differing views as to what sort of income would provide an acceptable standard of living - it does obviously depend on what you want out of life. I found the letters from Aileen and James particularly uplifting as they demonstrate that you do not need a substantial income to be happy. I can identify with this, and I will be perfectly content with a property that has sufficient land to build a runway for the Learjet! Seriously, I would be content with a simple existance and I have no interest in expensive holidays, swimming pools or a driveway full of cars. A veggie plot, chickens, a few pigs and a 2CV to tinker with will suit me fine! Aileen, We visited the Correze region on our first visit to France many years ago. We stayed in a gite near the town of Meysssac and loved it! What are property prices like at present in Correze? Thanks again Hillbilly
  2. Hi This is my first post as a new member. Please be gentle with me! Myself and Mrs Hillbilly have toyed with the idea of moving to France for some years, having enjoyed numerous holidays there. Like many others have probably done, the plan is to sell up in the UK and buy cheaper in France, leaving money to invest to produce income and supplement a pension. We are looking for an earlier escape from the rat race than we could afford here and we are seeking a simple lifestyle (grow veggies, keep chickens etc.) The thing that I am uncertain about is how much we would need to live on, allowing for no mortgage or other significant outgoings. I realise that this is a very subjective question, but could anybody advise as to what sort of standard of living an annual income of say 15,000 to 20,000 euros might allow in France? Any observations would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Hillbilly
