    Removing putty from a glazing rebate is always hard, mainly since no one seems to adopt the old wheeze of firstly painting over the rebate with primer. The putty gets right down into the grain and is a pig to remove without bits of wood. I tend to use a reversed chisel and then draw the blade over the last bits of putty with the blade absolutely vertical to level and if necessary, finally, some course sandpaper to flatten the surface.

    Thanks Gluestick - thought I had looked everywhere in Brico Depot.  As to the putty, yes and some of it is rock hard.  Frightened to try any harder with my old chisel and mallet, yet other bits seem to fall away just looking at it. [;-)]

    Re silicone does anyone have a trade name to look for?  Have started to strip back my white painted windows with a view to dark wood staining them, but the problem is what to do with the putty  (some parts really hard and difficult to remove other bits just falling away).

    I contacted Sadolin who suggested using silicone but would not give me a name.  My research has found a Dow Corning product but can't seem to find anything like it in France or enven here in the UK except to order over the Internet, but I would like to try a small quantity first.  I have found some brown putty and may have to work with that instead.

    hi Chris
    I'm no expert by any means, but have always been interested in these things and wish I had time to get more involved.  (Now have my tools and workshop in France and spend most of my time in UK - have got something wrong somewhere)

    My thoughts would be,  recessing  with a router between say 6 - 12mm  thickness should be no problem, but doubt you could carve hands thin enough to fit on the spindle left? and not sure if the movements would cope with the weight. 
    Whatever you do, would love to see how you get on.

    You may like to try this one http://www.ycbclocks.co.uk/  Theres no link to the actual page but if you look for Quartz movements, then Hermle Standard Sold singularly you will get this information:-

    Yes it happened to me - twice.  Both times I simply sent them an email.  First time they replied and credited the account.  Second time they just credited the account so no problems, but I carefully check every time now.  For what it's worth that peage is the new one and doesn't make any beep when it opens.  One other annoying thing though which I mentioned previously, very often one of the journeys gets processed late and charged the following month which then incurs the 2 euro transaction for use during that month.  Haven't tried querying that one so far.

    The theory is that when you buy a PC you have to buy an operating system, which can be upgraded etc, but when you sell it on again, in theory you are supposed to pass the operating system licence on, because it's effectively useless without one.  Of course none of this covers scrapping the old one or other scenario's, but just thought I would try to explain.

    Bill Gates needs to scrape up some revenue from wherever he can :-)

    Haven't tried it myself yet but think I will need to do something similar one day.  My thoughts are to use a product something like Renaulac - Torchis a Cirer 'Murs Anciens' - this from my old Brico Depot catalogue priced at E20.90 per 15kg, but this is intended to produce a rough wall effect and is available in a few colours.

    Just a thought - not in France at the moment, but just looked in my manual for an Optex box that I have there.  Its not clear, but is there a possibility that there might be some adjustment possible where the "LNB type" is selected. ie my manual appears to be showing a frequency and if so may be adjusted at that point.  May be clutching at straws, but trying to help [:)]

    I'm no expert, but think we need to know a little more about the setup, in particular the second dish.  Is it the same and with a monoblock LNB and are you trying to link to the same digibox?  If so are you just swapping connections when necessary etc. As an interim, from my research 90cm would seem to be a bit excessive for France and smaller would be easier to align.

    I have written a bit more on another thread concerning an Optex one that I bought in Castorama.  Without going into all that, I can confirm that for testing purposes I brought it back to UK and plugged into my Sky setup here.  By changing its software language to English as I do struggle and the default satellite to Astra 2 it then "automatically" found the main channels we wanted.
