I am overwhelmed by the advice I have received from forum members and I would like to thank you all for sharing your experiences. It seems most people think having a mutuelle is a good idea and a few think otherwise. I will probably do it but I'm am still not absolutely sure I need to. I am 66, reasonably fit but joints are creaking and my over consumption of the local wine (Cote de Malepere) is probably not good for me. So, the issues are - which company to choose and what level of cover; difficult decisions.

I received my Carte Vitale a month ago and have been working on getting top-up insurance. There are so many companies providing similar levels of cover at roughly similar prices that it is very difficult choosing between. Rather than try to find recommended companies, I thought I'd look for companies to avoid instead - any suggestions? In addition, having talked to some British friends in my area, some of them have said - why do you think you need top-up insurance? You can manage quite well without it. I have to say, I am not sure why I think I need it. Can anyone give me a good reason.

I went to the CPAM offices in Carcassonne almost two months ago with my form S1 and all the documents I needed. Everything was in order but, nothing since, not a word, rien! Am I being unreasonable to expect that I might have received something from them by now?
