My son wishes to get married to a French girl in France. He has been asked for a "Certificat de Celibat" issued by the British Government tosay he is unmarried. He can't produce this as it is not a document that the British government issues. The local mairie are insisting he has one of these. How do we get round it please? Does anyone know the answer. There must be something we can do. Other Brits must have got married in France without one.
