Whoops! should have read the message about "plasterboard between beams"- seems to say it all but I would still like to know what the French for hardboard is!

Having followed advice about laying a frame on top of existing rafters as a base for a new floor I now need to infill between the old rafters so that I can fill the void with insulation. I assume that this is done by fixing 150mm(say) timber baton to the rafters and and fixing some form of boarding to the batons - again I assume hardboard. Does anyone know how the board is cut to fit exactly? - and what is the French for hardboard?
