No. He got his first paper published through me.

Sorry, I actually am in awe of clinicians/surgeons. They saved my life!
-
NomossPoint taken.I was a Clinical Scientist rather than a linguist. Nb A consultant surgeon (urology) was once in awe of me in that I had a higher degree, whereas he only had two first degrees. His dad was a Clinical Scientist though ..

nomossIf I was you I'd just give up trying to justify

And just to clarify, whatever way you work it out, the normally accepted value of risk of 1 in 20,000 is not (yet) reached in the UK or France. This was, I think, the main thrust of the thread.
-
OK Chancer I see where it comes from. However I fail to see what on earth the relevance of such a derived figure can possibly have on the comments made before with respect to relative risks. It really only adds a certain amount of confusion to the discussion on risks.
-
QuillanWhere on earth do you get the 23% chance of survival from?
-
OK. Thanks but I found the thread already addressing this.
-
Sorry for being so ignorant but what, exactly, does 200% cover actually give?
-
Nice to know Pickles - but they don't appear to take humans to and from UK either.Sorry about diversion

And equally stupid comments and replies.

Fair enough

Val_2An interesting comment Val. Given that you have 4,000 odd posts here, why did you go to this FE place?
-
That is either carry on in the right hand lane (usually it also carries on on the motorway) or turn off. Which one? Also if English is ok driving in France, what is the problem.Echoes of bridges over streams. Has Emirates been told off for calling it an air line?
-
Really cant see your logic here. If its "stay on the right", then it either means exit or keep to the right hand lane of the carriageway. The latter seems a somewhat unusual command on the motorway or perhaps it knows you are already on the right carriageway. You actually do say using the English setting in France was OK. I can see no reason why the set language has to be that of the country you are driving in, except for some rather funny pronunciations being made. Presumably its merely switching to another word look-up table or character recognition table.Presumably you used the visual display to guide you. When the words were spoken, what did you actually do?
-
Could also be sortie. - exit on right. Given the rather large difference between this and the last post I would go the change language route on the sat nav.We have a garmin and its rather amusing to listen to the pronunciation of the various street names in France,
-
If you can, why not switch it to English language and see if it is understandable then.A variation on google translate .

As well as management greed (incompetence at best), I would like to think that the BDS movement made a little contributionJust one link:http://www.timesofisrael.com/bds-stickers-placed-on-israeli-products-in-ireland/

Totally agree, RH. Likewise the UK government - who sent more military weapons to Israel than China and Saudi combined. Its entirely hypocritical for the US to condemn Israel while simultaneously and voluntarily restocking Israel's arsenal before Congress breaks for summer recess. This restocking is on top of the $3bn a year it is providing in military aid. The US sends more 'aid' to Israel than it does to the entire African sub continent.EDIT Not referring to you RH, MEMRI was a source quoted by Quillan.Arms sales are entirely motivated by profit with complete disregard for human life. If there were better international controls over arms sales maybe Russian separatists, ISIS etc wouldn't be armed to the hilt - and our own soldiers wouldn't be facing arsenals of weapons manufatured but a few miles from their home towns. One of the more 'sick' outcomes of the wholesale slaughter of Gazans is that Israeli companies like Elbit have seen their stock rise by 30% as their products can now be sold as 'field tested'....on women and children.
-
By the way you might want to choose your sources more carefully - MEMRI is Washington based extreme right wing mouthpiece for the Israel government.

An enquiry after Cast Lead showed ZERO evidence of Hamas using civilians etc as human shields however it DID find evidence of Israel using captured Palestinians as human shields - again a war crime. Israel did this again in the Shujiyah massacre of a few days ago.
-
It happened on two occasions and on both occasions UNWRA located and removed the rockets and issued a public warning to Hamas. The two schools were unoccupied. The UN had given the precise co-ordinates of the schools being used as UN shelters on seventeen that's 17 separate occasions - which makes any sane person think that Israel is deliberately targeting the shelters. You also seem to forget that the attacks were witnessed by international journalists. Even the US has condemned the attacks now. This targeting of civilians would be consistent with what I witnessed while living in the West Bank i.e.the IDF using children for target practice. Israel have also prevented the access of ambulances and have shot at ambulances and medical staff trying to get to the wounded resulting in many many more deaths. Friends in Gaza acting as human shields to three of the hospitals that have been deliberately targeted by Israel: al-Wafa, al-Aqsa and al-Shifa have all been targeted when trying to evacuate patients. Israel deliberately targeted the hospitals bombing the ICU and the suite of surgeries killing both patients and medics. These are war crimes. You seem desperate to justify the murder of thousands of civilians, including many children Quillan?
