1. The unknown language is dutch. I have now got the same manuel in french the DVB section is on page 21. I Wonder if you have checked  doing an installation manuelle via the Installaion TNT Menu. In particular the Configuration Technique which contains the option MAJ auto de service. There is also a mise à jour de logiciel which Sony recommend having activated......I cant imagine much cooperation from French TV néeunmoine on that though. Get your TNT up and running as a priority and leave the satellite stuff to later. Small point your TV is disecq 1.2 compatible so it would be able to switch between the two dishes automatically . The connexions for the cable are now cheap at around €3.
2. Hi again, earlier mentioned the possible change in numbering of certain HD and standard channels. The change was implemented on my transmitter at Amailloux but maybe not on yours; however if it has been done then you will find the standard definition channels of TF1, France 2,M6 and Arte on 51,52,56,57. But this will only be the case if the HD is available AND the transmitter is included in the renumbering. Otherwise they will be where they are normally found. Do hope you will not be confused by the inimitable gallic rationality on which all this is based.[:D]
3.
No, Loops, only the one box! Are you gonna stay up all night watching these matches?[blink] Might have a solution soon.  OH has a copin from table tennis club who has a friendly TV installer.....[:)]
Copain ou copine.[;-)] That is real progress; all you need is to point the best of your two aerials towards Riberac , connect to the TV, reinitialise the TV and retune using the onboard digital tuner on the TV. The sooner the better; there is some good stuff over the holidays.  Jehosaphat! It aint half a drama trying to include a quote with Windows 8 Professional and Internet Explorer 10.
4.
Yeah, watch TV5 BFM, metéo prévisions, etc.  I'm not the goggle-eyed one in our house but I do watch some programmes like Echappés Belles, etc.  However, Arte I do miss terribly..... Enjoy the match, Loops!
Hi a quickie! had trouble locating a Sedea s6200, a rare beast http://www.priceminister.com/offer?action=desc&aid=591278908&productid=177895723 OK it is a free to air digital satellite tuner, so do you have freesat box as well, presumably for UK programmes. What channels do you get on the Sedea s6200. I have only read again up to and including page 2. The highlights  of the other 3 matches are starting.
5.
Thank you, loops, for your continued interest and advice. The manual is in French, Italian, German and one other language that I cannot identify.  The French is fine, understand it OK and have done a re-tune. What I can't understand is, all the surrounding aerials point in all different directions!!!  Seriously, I am NOT joking!  However, I still think that a tweaking of the direction of our aerial is what's needed.  After all we get all the UK and other French stations perfectly; good pictures, good sound.
Yeah! But on TNT there are NO UK stations, UK stations can only be received by satellite so nothing to do witrh the TV other than that the image and sound come out of the box. As for other french stations there are some free to air, mostly newscasts like TV5 BFM iTele etc. I am beginning to have doubts that your TV is even connected to a terrestrial aerial capable of TNT reception at all. I'll reread the thread later after the Bundesliga Pokal match between Borussia Dortmund and Hannover.
6.
If you decide to get an installer in, then get some recommendations, our french friends were well and truly had by their installer, expensive, a cowboy and quite quite useless.
Idun is right dont do it. Néeunmoine just a little bit confused about references in the thread to "deep scanning a box", sounds naughty; as I have always assumed that you would be using the integrated onboard TNT Tuner incorporated into the TV set. Tuner TNT (numérique) : 1 tuner TNT (DVB-T / Tuner Numérique Terrestre) Compatible TNT SD MPEG2 (flux de 1ère génération, non-utilisable avec des flux HD) http://www.lcd-compare.com/televiseur-SONKDL26U2000-SONY-KDL-26U2000-Bravia.htm Please confirm whether it is a set top box connected to TV or the TV Tuner which is being used. Also do you have the TV Manual still and if so is it in french or English? I have the English version at moment but could obtain the french version if more convenient. Small point your neighbour gets TF1 and Arte and I wager her aerial is pointed at the "Puy"; by the way it is not Fr1 but TF1, as it is a private channel like M6, only the national channels use the Fr prefix. The TV tuner is TNT SD and will work until sometime in 2014, when all the TNT Channels will only be transmitted in HD; néeunmoine it could be used in conjunction with an HD compatible "adaptateur" as second TV: in it's heyday it would have been a smart set of kit. Oh Dear rain again! So a day of carols and wall tiles awaits.
7. Just seen a disgraceful incident in Cahors on 20minutes site. http://www.20minutes.fr/ledirect/1066339/cahors-ane-pere-noel-malmene-blesse Puzzled by éméché so had to check it out. http://www.languefrancaise.net/bob/detail.php?id=2954 Néanmoins, un petit vade mecum pour les fetes, quand meme. However, a small memo for the festivities, as well. http://www.languefrancaise.net/bob/syno.php?id=267&synonyme=ivre Chin! Chin! Bottoms up!
8.
Ooops [:$] Nobody told me that! I must sound as odd as the French when they say "moreover" instead of also when speaking English[:(]
Rarely use néanmoins as an adverb, if ever, but frequently use it as a conjunction as it has a nice distinctive ring which draws more attention and emphasis than a feeble quand meme.[:D]
9. Hi! Been playing with the round circle target on the CSA map and pulling it around as a result it would seem that the Riberac transmitter is better on the north side of the departmental road leading to Limoges. The Limoges is further away whereas the local transmitter is much closer. Just a couple of kilometres to the South-West of the bourg and one is definitely in Riberac territory. As you say that the house looks towards the South it may be therfore the best direction, so the lady secretary at the mairie probably lives on that side of the commune. The Riberac transmitter is approximately in the direction of Bordeaux, so which way is your terrestrial aerial pointing. Please do a COMPLETE installation on your TV similar to like you did when the TV was taken out of the box....not an update (mise à jour). http://www.csa.fr/content/download/20763/345793/file/COMMENT+RECHERCHER+SES+CHAINES.pdf The one page PDF link above gives the CSA recommended procedure. I have downloaded in english the users manual for the TV but it is on the desktop so not immediately available. The map given by Q gives reception for both Limoges and Riberac at 3/5 based on a residence in the bourg but the reception on the CSA map is more variable and locality dépendent.
10. Phoned your local secretary this morning for help on your problem. She says, that there should be no reason for not getting reception of TF1 and Arte. When I suggested that Limoges would be the best aerial for reception she agreed but informed me that at home they used an aerial directed towards Bordeaux. However she said that when there were winds there was sometimes a loss of signal; she had not heard of problems with aerials directed towards Limoges. I reckon your aerial is pointed towards Bordeau being installed during analog days by the previous french resident and not touched by the later UK résidents and never upgraded for TNT. So a change of direction to Limoges and possibly a new "bon coin" aerial may be advisable. Your TV, you say, is picking up the other channels so it must be digital BUT does the TV have an onboard tuner or is it via an external adapter. If you are not sure, then post the relevant model number , so we can appraise better the technical capabilities.
11. It is not entirely true to say that Arte is not available on HotBird. Arte in HD is in fact available on Eutelsat HotBird 13A , this channel is of interest in particular to people seeking a better quality of sound with Dolby Digital. However the reception requires a FTA Tuner having DVBS-2 which is then coupled to an amplifier digitally via a Toslink optical cable or an HDMI 1.4a Audio Return Channel. This channel is only likely to be used by confirmed audiophiles and it's availability is not widely known and disseminated. 11681 H tp 159ARTE FrançaisDVB-S2 MPEG-4/HD27500-3/4 8PSK   307 -  571319-15900  572 F  573 G  574 origWide 52-53
12. Small point Sweet on the TNT Channel numbers, in the early hours of 12/12/12 the channels were updated changing in particular the order. The popular HD channels are now clustered at the beginning with TF1 HD on channel 1, France2 HD on 2, PayTV HD on 3, ARTE HD on 4,etc. So if you have done a retune after 12/12/12 then there may be some confusion. With due cognisance of your linguistic and musical talents; I would suggest not moving the dish directed at Astra 2; directing your second dish at Astra 1 ( 19.2°est); regarding the "rateaus" the one with long vertical bits is an old obsolete VHF.....of no use; one with more short bits in a horizontal plane is a VHF aerial and will work on Terrestrial Numerique Telé. As noted above the direction of neighbours' aerials is a good guide. Approximately the aerial should point towards Limoges.
13. For any interested late viewers, in clear, on Sky Atlantic HD. Audio only Dolby Digital 2.0 though.
14.
Another tip for non-satellite reception of BBC and ITV players.... If you have a Samsung Smart TV linked to your home internet - just change your TV country settings by first selecting your Smart Hub and then pressing 'Fastforward, 289, Rewind' and selecting the UK. Switch the TV off and then on again, Select Smart Hub and it will automatically unload all your French apps etc and load up all the standard UK ones under each Smart Hub menu. BBC iPlayer comes as standard and you can load ITV Player from the on screen app store. You'll need to change the DNS address under Network Settings from the main TV menu. I use the Overplay one as described earlier in the post. No need for any satellite stuff at all! Chiefluvvie
And when Sammy Smart TV is needed for 121212 http://www.121212concert.org/broadcast  it goes into maintenance mode for six hours during the early hours of thursday morning.[8-)]
