  1. Don’t judge a book by its cover! Gentle, affectionate Gonzo is a hard looking boy with a soft centre! He’s in Phoenix foster care, having previously been found straying before being taken into the SPA.

He is a bundle of fun and gets on brilliantly with his foster carers, with other dogs, and is learning to control his bouncy enthusiasm with his canine foster-siblings.

Gonzo is not a beginner’s dog and needs an owner experienced in powerful breeds (Gonzo is the size of a Boxer but is a stocky 40kg) who is willing to provide him with the high level of exercise and stimulation he needs, and to be his firm but gentle pack leader with whom he can feel safe and secure. Gonzo needs to know his place in the pack, as true to the Bullmastiff breed, he can be guarding of his own people and wary of strangers. As with all of our rescues, a fenced garden is a pre-requisite, especially for such an athletic boy as Gonzo.

He’d love another doggie friend to play with, is good with horses, but is NOT good with poultry!

If you think Gonzo would like to join your pack, then please contact his carer, Patricia, on 05 53 50 40 76

  3. TAZ – 1 year old female Collie X

Tax is actually less than a year old, still a puppy, and her owner, Richard, who loves her dearly, is very reluctantly seeking a new home for her.

The only reason is that he lives on a very busy road, and Taz is jumping the fence if she sees a squirrel or something else exciting! Richard loves her too much to carry on taking a risk and is sick with worry that she will cause an accident.

Taz loves people, is great with children and other dogs and although un-tested with cats, shows no interest in them in the vet’s waiting room!

Taz is sterilised, micro-chipped, vaccinated and passported, and so is all ready to go!

Taz is perfectly behaved in the house when her humans are ther but has been chewing possessions when left alone in the house! Phoenix has suggested the use of a dog crate full of toys for those times when Taz needs to be left alone for a few hours, and this is working well, and Phoenix has also provided other advice on the chewing issue, which Taz’s new owners must take note of. This is a common issue for a puppy and one that can be easily resolved with the right know-how.

Taz is totally house-trained, walks well on and off-lead and sleeps soundly in her bed at night. She’s a really delightful girl.

If you have a secure garden and would like to meet this lovely girl, please contact Richard on:

  5. (re-posted as the first post's text was part-missing)

Hope Association is dealing with a terrible problem - 66 starving dogs were found abandoned in cages in the home of someone who was hospitalised. They all need medical treatment and food. At present, it is mainly only Hope Association and Orfee who are helping the dogs, armed with a limited team of kind volunteers.

The majority are now in foster care but the others are still waiting. Hope is rallying troops to exercise and feed the dogs but is really up against it due to lack of funds and people to help.

PLEASE help and visit the Hope website to make a donation and make a difference to this very desperate situation, or contact them if you are able to help walk or feed the dogs, or to provide foster care.

Visit Hope’s website http://hopeassoc.org/ (if this link does not work, please google Hope Association) and click on the donate button at the bottom of the page to pay by Paypal or credit / debit card – please mark your donation for “Dogs of Saint-Gaudent”

There is a contacts page on the Hope website if you want to get in touch with them.

    Thank you.
