  1. Thanks everyone...will try some of those suggestions :-)
  2. Thanks everyone, i had a look at the link and it looks like it is zebraline for wood burners... now to find where they might sell it !!
  3. Hi, Sorry not sure if this is in the right section... We have a woodburner that I would like to clean. Back in the UK when I had a burner I used to buy some stuff that looked a bit like shoe polish that buffed the woodburner "back to black". I cant seem to find anything similar over here... Can anyone recommend a product to bring my woodburner back to life.. Thanks Louise
  4. Just a little update.... I went down to see the Gendarme today and the reason he had called was because he wanted to see my certificate from the training course that you have to do to get a Cat 2 license. I told him that I hadnt done it yet but also that I wasnt serving alcohol at the moment. I told him that I probably wont end up doing it as it is so expensive and the number of visitors enquiring for evening meals doesnt warrant it really.... He seemed ok with my response but I have to let him know my decision in the next week or so... Guessing a spot check will be on the cards one day !!
  5. Hi, I applied for my license for Cat 2 (serving wine with evening meals) at the Mairie. I received a letter back that was stamped and signed within a couple of days. Can anyone tell me if this is the license as we had a visit from the police the other morning. I wasn't in so he is going to come back. He had a copy of the paperwork with him but that was about all my boyfriend was able to find out. Do they come out routinely after an application ? It was at 10am in the morning so don't think he was doing a spot check ? Has anyone got any experience in what happens when you apply? Thanks Louise
  6. Hi, Sorry, I know a similar post was made recently but this is about the next stage. I have my TEFL qualification and am looking to become a host tutor and provide immersion courses to students wanting to learn english. Does anyone know of any organisations that I could contact who I can register with to help find students. I have found HLA and contacted them but was wondering if anyone knows of any others. Has anyone any experience in being a homestay tutor who can offer advice on where to advertise. Thanks Louise
  7. Hi, Does anyone know where I can find the latest up to date guidelines on 1) licenses for serving wine 2) provision of evening meals - e.g any licenses required for the food side of it. This is separate from the registration categories on SIRET number etc. Is anyone willing to perhaps PM to give me further advice, particularly if you live in Dept 16 Thanks Louise
  8. Thanks everyone for your input. We have decided to have a twin room as I have already had a couple of enquiries where a twin room was preferred. Louise :-)))
  9. Is that something that you just add to your standard insurance ? Is it like third party liability ?
  10. Hi everyone... me again with another of my million and one questions... Can anyone give me any information on the additional insurance I will need for the Chambre d'hôte and any recommendations for companies I could contact. Please feel free to message me if we can't post company names on here. Thanks Louise
  11. Thanks for your help everyone. Definitely given me food for thought :-)
  12. Thanks everyone. You have definitely given me food for thought :-)
  13. I have another query... when you register with the Mairie do you include babies in the numbers e.g we have beds for 12 people but 2 cots so do I register for 12 or 14. I think I should register for 14 ???
  14. Thanks everyone for your help... We have got two of those 3/4 beds in the loft but the mattresses are stupidly expensive (3ft) so will look in to those that zip together perhaps.
  15. Hi everyone, Sorry haven't had chance to post for a while. We have been very busy trying to get the chambre d'hôte ready for this summer. We are hopefully on track to open a couple of rooms at the end of June. I am a bit stuck on one decision... should I have a twin room ? We have 5 rooms in total - one will be a family room for 4, three are doubles and the last is the one I am not sure - should I make it a twin ? What does everyone think ? How often do you have enquiries for a twin room ? Is it worth sacrificing a double for ? Im just thinking that we have quite a lot of cycling etc in this area so we may get two friends wanting to share.... Thanks for your thoughts Louise
  16. Thanks Sue - I am glad to finally be here. Good point Leo....a profit is definitly on the "to do " list....[:)]
  17. Just got internet so thought I would catch up with everyone.... we have been here 5 weeks now (time flies !!!) and just about got most things sorted. Time now to get on and sort a name - yep still not decided !!! and then get a website up and running. A couple of the names I liked are already in use round this area as I have found when doing a bit of research. Anyway hope you are all well Louise
  18. I quite like that... definitly one to consider... thank you [:)]
  19. Thank you everyone..... tea bags and coffee... a definite yes. I like Marmite too so will put that on the shopping list... :-) Think I will just try to fill up the van with as much as I can as I know food is dearer over there but then as we are planning a veggy patch then I think we should make some savings that way. Am really looking forward to it.... can't wait to get started on a whole new chapter of our lives... my mums already booked her flight to come over in a few weeks so am sure I might have a little list for her :-) [:D]
  20. Morning...... Just a little update and to say I have forgotten about revealing the name...I still havent chosen one !!! On the other hand we do have a date for moving... we are moving over on Monday 31st October..... France here we come !! am so excited. Its the start of a whole new part of our lives and I am detemined to make it work... :-) So any top tips (apart from learning  the language) or things I shouldnt forget to do when I move over..... Louise[:)]
  21. Sorry, havent had chance to have a look at them properly still..... I will reveal all as soon as I have decided [:)]
  22. Thanks Kitty. Luckily we have a big van at the moment so we have the option to bring things over from the UK. Obviously we have to weigh up the costs of petrol and lost days travelling against the cost savings but there are definitly some things that would be alot cheaper bringing them over. France is cheaper for some items though - sanitary ware etc is much cheaper than in the UK. The Brico Depot catalogue seems to be my chosen reading material at the moment [:)]
  23. I just looked up th nursery rhyme and it is about plucking feathers from the skylark..... not quite right for a B&B Thanks Angela... Yes I did but it said i had to have an ID ???? I would have said that the roses were ours as well but my boyfriend has just informed me that he dug them up when he weeded !!! I knew he had cut them back but didnt know he had taken them out, I can always plant some more I guess
