  1. from https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/brexit-questions-will-my-passport-be-valid-after-brexit/

A British passport will be valid to travel to the EU with it, only if it meets all of the criteria listed below:

Is valid for at least another six months on the day its holder travels to EU Is no older than 10 years on the day its holder travels to EU

    Similar advice at https://www.gov.uk/renew-adult-passport/renew

So it does seem you will need to renew it.

The carte de sejour will mean your passport will not be stamped as you can stay permanently. It is not a replacement for a passport (EU ID cards will no longer be valid for entry into the UK).
  2. This is not an agreement between the UK and the rest of the EU.

This is an EU law implemented by the EU countries. European law has precedence over national laws and member states cannot pass national laws that contradict EU laws.

It is an arrangement for an EU resident in one EU country to request the application of the succession laws of their home country in their will. The exceptions are the UK, Ireland, and Denmark where the country of residence laws are applicable regardless of citizenship. But citizens of those three countries living in another EU country still have the choice.

The article I mentioned above used someone from Ireland in France as an example and, on another page, someone from Poland in Germany.
  3. It is not specific to the UK and France.

It is European legislation and it was agreed by most EU countries in 2012 their citizens could decide on their inheritance administration. And there is the possibility of challenge by a country.

    from https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/family/inheritances/planning-inheritance/index_en.htm

EU rules on inheritance do not apply in Denmark , Ireland and the UK. If your heirs decide to settle your inheritance with an authority in these countries, your choice of law may not be taken into account. However, Danish, Irish and British citizens can benefit from these EU rules and choose the law of their nationality for their inheritance if this is handled in an EU country other than Denmark, Ireland and the UK.

The authority of the EU country that handles your inheritance or succession can refuse to apply certain provisions of the law of your nationality if they are contrary to local public policy. For example, authorities could refuse to apply provisions if these discriminate between heirs based on their sex or on whether they were born in or out of wedlock.

Don't forget, as the inheritance will be taxed according to the country of residence, the country inheritance laws could have an influence on the contents of a will.
  4. This is a very good explanation

    https://www.french-property.com/guides/france/finance-taxation/inheritance/planning/european-succession

The French will can be handwritten and does not require a witness. It needs to include mention of EU regulation no. 650/2012 of 4 July2012 and choosing the succession under English/Scottish rules.

You can leave to who ever you want but the taxes (for all but UK property) will be paid under the French inheritance rules so can be up to 60%. Even siblings might be taxed at up to 45%

  5. Martini is just one brand of red and white vermouths. It is available in all supermarkets. Supermarkets usually have their own brand of red/white vermouth-like aperitvos. However vermouths have a flavour of artemisia (for bitterness) and other herbs.

Here we use muscat de Rivesaltes (or Samos) (about 4€), a natural sweet wine, in cooking. If necessary, sharpening it up with one of the cheap balsamic vinegars in savoury recipes and meat sauces.
  6. You need to use Google Maps

    Instructions https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3093484

the Pegman is the yellow man in the bottom RH corner on the PC version.

You may find the street view is made up of images taken at different times/dates (I've seen screens with places half covered in snow and the other a summer day!) so you may need to move the Pegman to get the view you want.
  7. You don't say which engine or the age. For a start, how does the BMW 5 series F10 fit in the Crit'Air Air Quality Certificate classification?

You may well find you are restricted more and more over the coming years in which towns you can drive it in; not only in France but all the other countries with air quality/congestion zone restrictions and charges.
  8. https://www.identite.photos is a useful web site for photos for all official web sites.

There is a free app you can download to your smartphone/tablet. The app has a head-positioning frame so you get the head the correct size. You then have the options of just accepting the digital image you have taken (no charge); you can pay 5€ and they will confirm it conforms to requirements and send a digital set (or 6€ and they will print the photos).

According to https://www.identite.photos/format-photos-didentite-36-pays-de-leurope/ they are valid for UK passports.
  9. [quote user="pomme"]Thank you for this. The short link to the NHS EHIC application web site is https://tinyurl.com/ycapseku

Unfortunately my application was rejected as it seems CPAM has not registered their acceptance of my S1 with Newcastle.

I contacted the Ameli English help line +33 (0)974 75 36 46 They contacted my local CPAM who telephoned me and said they would tell Newcastle my S1 had been registered in France.

Two documents that may interest some of you

    https://solidarites-sante.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/calendrier_vaccinal_29juin20.pdf

this second one covers ALL the vaccinations recommended, not just the Flu

I think this vaccination-info-service.fr chart https://tinyurl.com/yystbkrk I saw recently is a lot easier to understand at a glance.

It resulted in a diptheria/tetanus/polio/whooping cough top-up here. I'd had chicken pox when I was in my 40s so zona (shingles) vaccine was not suggested.

The newspapers are reporting pharmacies are running out of flu vaccine doses as there has been a higher take-up than even the 30% increased number the government ordered. There are unlikely to be fresh supplies produced before the end of November.
  13. EuroTr@sh wrote the following post at Thu, Oct 15 2020 9:48 But it may all become clear on Monday when the portal opens

Although the portal opens on Monday, the French government is still working on the decree which will define the conditions. That has been delayed until the end of October.

There will not be any problem for those with 10-year permanent CdS applying from Monday but those without that should probably delay their application for a couple of weeks. The information published so far is rather light on full requirements detail compared to the outline I think was given earlier in the year.
  14. They started issuing the credit card-size cards in summer 2011. I have a credit card-size one with 10-year validity dated end Jun 2011. But they must have been short of supplies/machines and still had some of the old, larger size in stock. We have one of those dated end Aug 2011. It all seemed slightly odd, as we applied for replacements at the same time. And the larger card was only valid for five years.
  15. The full 2020 tax brochure pratique https://tinyurl.com/yc69bavh explains 8RP/8RQ:

    and 1TT/1UT are only for

So I don't think 8RP/8RQ are of relevance to many of us!
  16. It depends on the local system as well.

Our bin is weighed. We get an annual weight allowance for household waste and 12 collections a year. Over the weight limit or more frequent collections are an additional cost. Recyclables except for glass are collected separately without any extra charge.

So a very individual separate bill per household.
  17. The tax authorities can see the social services databases so no need to register separately.

As a holder of an S1, there is 8SH/SI on the French tax web page (or form 2042-C) to tick to get reduced charges on the investment income:

Revenus du patrimoine exonérés de CSG et de CRDS

Vous relevez d’un régime d’assurance maladie d’un État de l’Espace économique européen ou de la Suisse et vous n’êtes pas à la charge d’un régime obligatoire de sécurité sociale français.

You need to declare all your pension incomes, investment and your rental incomes (even though hat is not taxed) in order they can work out your tax rate band and revenu fiscal de référence (RFR).
  18. They are useful for letting air into the system if a partial vacuum is caused by flushing/emptying the sink, but they do not allow foul air out of the system.

I suspect they want you to have open pipes at roof height to do that venting out.

In this diagram https://assainissement.ooreka.fr/comprendre/fosse-septique-ventilation your valves are the primary ventilation (in). They are expecting a secondary ventilation (out)
  19. I would also agree with NE France, Alsace or the other side of the Vosges, both wine-growing areas so the weather is pleasant. Just avoid the Rhine plain which can be oppressively hot in summer.

Plenty of good major hospitals within easy access, Strasbourg, Colmar and Nancy, as well.
