  1. That's true, maybe it was just the compromis. In one case the buyer said they'd decided it was too expensive to employ people to work on the house, (and only realised an hour before signing?) and in the other it was later discovered these buyers (Brits!) have let people down before.

I asked an estate agent to come and look at our house; they make a charge for doing that but only if we don't go with them. So different from UK where I asked three agents to visit and give a free estimate, and went with the one who charged 1%.

  2. Just caught up with this thread. We are finally ready to sell our old house (OH has had health probs so we only just got round to tarting it up) I would also like to know about online agents.

Also, if we go with the unimpressive local agents, could we still have our own ad on the house? Next door sold that way 3 years ago. Obviously we wouldn't have the agent's board on the house in that case.

Third thing: I know of a couple of agents who don't have an agency, seem to work for agencies. One of them found a buyer for a friend's house - in one day! Probably a fluke, but I don't understand how these people operate and find buyers and sellers.
  3. hi,

No, I haven't got round to researching other companies. OH has been very ill and was hospitalised for a week. The insurance company immediately sent a confirmation that they would pay anything not included in the 100%. Must try and get my head round it!
  4. This was put on FB by a rescue organisation. It was sent by the owner of an adopted dog:

" He was only 4 years old and died after a visit to the vet. He was put on a new flea chewable that took his life less than 24 hours after taking it. Our other dog who went to the vet at the same time and was prescribed the same flea chewable almost died on Friday from the same medicine. At this time we are not sure he will still make it as there is no antidote for it and our research has shown that several dogs have died within 30 days due to liver and kidney failure after taking this medication. "

They were naturally terribly upset. Who knows? It could have been a bad batch or some animals have an extreme reaction. Worrying though.
  5. The medication is called Bravecto.

Apparently several dogs have died and some become very ill after being given this treatment vets. Very sad.

Sorry if this had been posted already, I thought I'd best do it straight away.
  6. We had a bigger dish installed a couple of years ago and it was fine till last week. I don't understand why we get all Freesat channels in the daytime but not in the evening...

It's annoying as I set it to record a couple of programmes I particularly lie, and it doesn't! But happily recorded 'Escape to the continent' yesterday - featured houses in our area, I know some of the properties. And it recorded something on ITV the other night.
  7. I was confused and still am! The original attestation in 2009 gave us entitlement to health treatment. My husband was my 'dependent' as he had not reached state retirement age. In 2010 a second attestation was received, adding his entitlement to 100%. When he finally received his own carte vitale, it came with a letter but didn't say 'attestation'.

Earlier this year, the list for my hospital appointment requested a current one, downloadable from the website, but I've just noticed it was only from February to July 2015.

I really don't understand why, once you are in the system, you have to keep proving it. The CV has to be produced at every hospital or GP appointment and they check the computer.
  8. The CV has been used numerous times at the hospital, pharmacy, GP.

I asked at the hospital about a new 100% attestation as the cancer returned last year - and is still being treated -, but was told there was plenty of time till September. Will that be done automatically? They've seen the current one so I don't know why their records would be out of date - though wouldn't be surprised.
  9. Our bank interest has been taxed in UK. It isn't a huge amount, is it worth the trouble of requesting a reimbursement and then having it taxed in France?

Also, my income is below the UK personal allowance, so I guess I could claim back tax on my share of bank interest. But then it would be taxed in France so I'd be worse off?
  10. I've just got a call from a hospital saying they can't pay bills because my husband doesn't come up on the system as being entitled. He had day surgery last summer and several appointments and 4 treatments recently.

He has had his own carte vitale for over a year and has an attestation for 100% until September this year. They want a 'demande d'attestation ouverture de droits'

I don't know what I'm supposed to send them!
  11. I've now found there was no response because the email address, phone number and postal address on the annual attestation was not the one to contact! I think the company we originally contacted is a broker. That still doesn't excuse the insurance company ignoring 3 emails and a letter.
  12. Struggling to complete the form (serves me right for leaving it so late but life has been hectic lately with health problems).

The Connexion guide says 'UK interest should now go in column 8, intérêts and then under D and TR on the lines below, before being carried to box 2TR on page 3 of the main 2042 form

I must be very dim - I can't see box 2TR on the main 2042! And as tax was paid in UK how will the French know not to tax it again?
  13. It's that time again! As in previous years, I put OH's teacher's pension on the pink form, copying it over to the blue one. Now, according to the Connexion guide, his state pension on the blue one.

In previous years I put a note to point out the TP is taxed in UK. The Inland Revenue reduced his tax code when the state pension kicked in - so does that mean he has paid UK tax on it? There doesn't seem anyway to put a note to that effect on the blue form.
  14. Why should we have to use a proxy? What's the point of letting you register if you can't vote? I have a letter dated 2 April saying I will be registered for one year from May 1st. They will send a further application form three months before the year is up!
  15. I registered to vote, didn't bother last time, but have not received a ballot paper. As the election is in two days, I guess I cannot vote. According to The Connexion, this has happened to a lot of Brits in France.
  16. No, not leaving France - we can't as OH is getting treatment not available in the UK (that is on 100% anyway). We are generally happy here, just the battle with bureaucracy gets me down.

I just meant that if we have such trouble getting reimbursement now, it will be even harder when the company knows we are not renewing.
  17. Shame! I'll have to wait until near the end of the year. I just hope we don't have any medical expenses in the three months after cancelling.

Our premium goes up every year anyway so it will be hard to compare. I looked at the website for our mutuelle and was tempted to apply for a quote just to see if it differed from what we are paying.
