1. As Betty says it is all down to the vets.

In the UK the vet issues the passport and keeps details of this. There is no central register. There are registers of the microchips(puce) where you can get details of the registered owner of the animal. When your animal is microchipped you should be given the registration form and it is your responsibility to update any change of address, change of owner etc to the microchip company.

Surely staying in with what we already have,

is in itself, enough reason to leave. Dave has managed to achieve practically

FA, which I must confess is far more than I thought he might.

Actually No - not if the out option is worse than what we presently have. That's why I want to know what the Out scenario will entail so I can make a rational choice.

We should be informed clearly and honestly what the Out proponents think what the scenario should be.

NickP has kindly given us an insight into how he sees the  Out future. It would be nice if other in favour of an exit could also give us their views.

I only ask because I have an aversion to buying a pig in a poke.

  3. I agree with you that we do not yet know the exact terms of the final agreement but we will before polling day. There still seems to be a lot of confusion from different groups who want to leave as to what will happen the options seem to range between your suggestion on one hand and those who suggest an arrangement similar to Norway.

The norwegian option would give us similar membership fees and conditions to what we have at present but with very little say on any changes to the rules in the future.

The complete break solution seems to me to run the risk of foreign owned companies moving their operations back to within the EU to keep the advantages they have at present. This will probably not happen instantly but over a longer time scale but it will not be good for the British economy.

I fear with several diverse out groups campaigning on different options that many people will not get what they think they have voted for.

I also fear that an out vote may well lead to the break-up of the UK  and to the collapse of the  Northern Ireland Peace process.

  4. It is always hard to say how well negotiations have gone when you don't know how much the other side were prepared to give.

I note the enthusiasm of some posters for a British exit and I would be interested to know what sort of arrangement they would expect to see between theUK and the EU. At the moment it seems we will know exactly what staying in entails but will be in complete ignorance of what happens if the UK leaves. Hardly a sound basis for making a rational solution
  5.
but REALLY! The british idea of superiority?????
Until I moved back to the UK from Sweden with Mrs Rabbie I would have agreed with you but we both noticed that it was almost impossible to hear a British person describe something in Britain without using the phrase "Best in the world". Now in some cases that may be true but in many it is not and it certainly give the impression of superiority and dare I say it arrogance.

This attitude may be more common in the southern part of the country but I suspect it is spread over the whole of it.

  6.
Still waiting for Robbie [:D]
Who is this Robbie? Is he some relative of Godot?

To explain further on  my original comment : What shocked me was not the selfishness per se but the absence of the self-righteousness that quite often permeates post on this forum.

  7. I read today that London has already exceeded its target figure for the whole year in polluting emissions. Something to be proud of.

I am not an asthmatic and am not particularly affected by these emissions but I am shocked by the selfish attitudes expressed by some contributors to this thread. Something needs to be done and soon if we are going to survive until the next millennium.
  8. Fortunately for the people living on the Somerset Levels the worst of the rainfall has been further north.

It seems that the problems in York were worsened because of economies in routine maintenance. It is not just a case of large capital outlays to improve the situation - all this expensive equipment needs to be kept in proper working order. I know these flood prevention schemes are very expensive but the costs when flooding occurs are also very high. It seems that there were EU grants available to help with these costs but because of pressure from anti-EU ministers these have not been applied for.

  9. As governments of all parties try to take credit for anything good that happens on their watch it is perhaps not unfair for them to be blamed for the bad that happens.

Being neither a supporter of the current government or the opposition, I did think there was some merit in the shadow chancellor's suggestion that a long term plan for flood defences should be drawn up and supported by both parties so that the spending was not at the mercy of election results.

One of the problems in the UK at present is that spending is too Londoncentric. There never seems to be any shortage of cash if London wants a new concert hall but flood defences in Cumbria seem to suffer from the desire to make sure that billionaires don't have to pay too much tax.
  10. We pedants must have our day :)

On a personal level I do enjoy the Scandinavian crime series. They have been consistently enjoyable. In fact, apart from the Italian one, I have enjoyed all the programs in that BBC 4 slot.

We tend not to watch these reality shows but record enough of other programs to make sure there is something to view when we want it.

Each to their own when it comes to these choices
  11. What was also surprising that the outburst was triggered by the fact the word "nite" was used. Now while I become grumpy at misspellings I do not allow them to condemn an entire nation. After all we all make mistakes in our written English from time to time as a critical perusal of this forum will reveal so perhaps it is for the best the thread has been deleted.

In my part of Scotland it was always  "a half and a half" with no wee. Brings back memories of my youth.[:)].
Don't tell me they serve it with wee in some parts of Scotland..................!
As I said not in my home area but who knows what they might serve in Glasgow to unsuspecting Englishmen[:D].

Seriously a half in Scotland is a fifth of a gill as opposed to a single in England which is a sixth which means an english double is less than a Scottish single[:)].

  13.
Rabbie ........

So, what about the dreaded Haggis?

In my much younger years, I used to go to Glasgow on business every fortnight for a couple of days. It was always on the menu in the canteen at lunchtime & it was quite nice. Well, nice-ish.

At 5-ish, we used to head for the on-site bar, where my on site colleague's regular tipple was "A wee half and a half". You'll know what that was! He'd shift a few of those!
I really like haggis provided it is cooked properly and served with mashed potatoes and turnips. In fact it is the only offal based food the Mrs Rabbie enjoys.

In my part of Scotland it was always  "a half and a half" with no wee. Brings back memories of my youth.[:)].

  14. Well now the vote has been taken and a comfortable majority have endorsed the bombing.

What worries me is the number of senior military and ex-military people who have come out against the decision.

Personally I felt that we should not bomb Syria without a clear strategy as to how we would accomplish our goals. It seems to be a truism that bombing alone is not sufficient - you need boots on the ground to secure territory and I feel that Cameron has not been completely honest in talking about the alleged 70000 syrian rebels who will allegedly carry out this role. It lot of them have been stated to be ISIS supporters so this is a big step in the dark
  15. Well, I think that in general it is offally good.

I was brought up in a household where kidneys and liver were common items on the menu and it was not unusual to have tripe and onions. Only had andouillettes(spelling?) once and I was not over impressed. Perhaps it is an acquired taste.

However Mrs Rabbie is not an offal fan. She delights in pointing out to me what kidneys produce and that the liver removes toxins from the blood. Chacun a son gout
  16. I agree with Norman but we are stuck with this government and just have to live with it.

If they really wanted to make savings perhaps they should look at the possibility of giving people the option to have the payment made to one of the people entitled to it. It seems to be inefficient to make two payments to the same joint account and send out two notificationsto the same address. Where people want separate payments then this should be allowed but there is clearly room for some savings without hurting recipients.
