1.
As hinted from the last few posts, the big problem would be collecting the tax. Even if it's made as an add-on to taxH. or taxF., the people who are due to pay it aren't resident in France and can be very elusive if they wish [;-)]
Filling out a tax form? Impossible to administer.
Surely if they use their second home in France they will be within french jurisdiction so they could be arrested if they are breaking french law.
  2.
So from not having had sex with her at all, it changes to consensual sex, now to the maid orchestrating it to blackmail him. As it appears he was out of the hotel within 30 mins of the end of the alleged assault, when did the alleged blackmail commence?
Sounds a bit like the defence offered by someone accused of borrowing and damaging a cart.

    1. I never took it

    2. It was damaged when I took it.

    3.  It was undamaged when I put it back
You need to improve your English if you want to teach it ;)

Although I have to say that our o/p is not alone.  I'm not at all sure that it's a requirment any more.
You are so right. There is a whole generation in England who seem ignorant of both grammar and spelling but that is probably best left to another thread[:D]

The mere fact that this is being considered shows just how mad the EU and the Eurokrauts have become.

    Chessie
I find the use of the word "Eurokraut" racist as it is clearly offensive to any one of german extraction.
I find it no more offensive than sauerkraut.

I always avoid eating cabbage and particularly imported cabbage.
If you cannot see the difference between the name of an item of food and what appears to be racial abuse then I was obviously mistaken in my assessment of your intelligence. In my opinion it is offensive to refer to an unhappy german as sauerkraut or any other variant of kraut  on a public forum.
  5. I was under the impression that it did apply to french second home owners if they lived outside France and  had not paid French tax in 6 of the last 10 years. I may have got the details wrong but paying tax already in France seems to be a way of avoiding the 2nd home tax. I suspect this also stops this tax being ruled as discriminatory

If the science is good, that doesn't mean it is acceptable, JK. At this moment in time, when the emphasis is on healthy eating and bio, it is not acceptable to suggest feeding animal remains to any farmed animals.
Does this mean that it alright to feed animal remains to my dog, my cat, myself and my (non-vegetarian) guests but not to my pig even though pigs are naturally omnivores?

    Only dogs Mel????[Www]
LOL idun - speaking as a bloke, I do know quite a few other men who act as though they have none! (Sorry mods!)
And I know one or two more who think with theirs.[:)]  And there you go - back to the subject of this thread, (allegedly).
I thought that was one of the allegations against DSK[:)]

I see the Beckhams have just adopted a new dog, a sister for their other dog Coco!

Why would you want to take on a new dog just as you are about to have a new baby in the house?

I expect they have an army of staff so it won't be down to Vic and Dave to look after the new dog.[;-)]
Or the new baby
Yes, this is a debate and a very good one. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but please wait to hear the facts that come out in court before convicting or freeing the man. Having said that, I know from experience many of them may be muddied by lies in court from both sides.

The problem in the USA is that the lawyers will be argueing about what is admissible in evidence, so the jury and the public and the press may not see or hear all the evidence. I personally think that any evidence should always be in court and the jury decide if it is relevant to their decision, but that is just me.
I believe it to be sensible to exclude evidence from a trial if it has been obtained illegally eg a confession beaten out of somebody by the police or such like.

I have tried to keep an open mind on this case in my contributions to this thread. My view in a very simplified way has always been that either DSK has been framed by security services or in fact he was guilty as charged. In either case this does not change my view that Rape is one of the worst crimes and has a devastating effect upon its victims. Flirting with a woman or even propositioning her is one thing but forcing yourself on her is quite another. The woman's right to say No must be respected. It has been said that rape is not about sex but about power/domination.

In this long thread there seem to be several themes - The guilt or otherwise of DSK - The differing cultural views of the actual offence.

I have an open mind with regard to the first until I have heard the evidence.  On the second I have made my views clear I hope.

  10.
This was the lead story on the BBC early evening news, but I find myself asking 'Why?' I don't see that the fact that he had an affair has any relevence to the collapse of the bank, so all it amounts to is another bit of 'celebrity' gossip.
it has been alledged that because he was having an affair with "a senior colleague" and not reporting this he was in breach of the bank's rules as there could have been a conflict of rules. Of course Sir Fred has received  a generous pension of  £700,000 pa later reduced to a paltry £500,000 pa for his efforts in bankrupting RBS  so it is not surprising that people are looking for ways to discredit him.
  11. What happens between two consenting adults in private is their own affair. What is not acceptable is to force oneself  on someone who is unwilling. In DSK's case if the allegations are true then he deserves to be punished with the full force of the law. If however he has been framed then he has suffered a grave injustice. Without the full facts it is impossible to come to any conclusion
  12.
I simply asked whether the car was covered by the policy.  If not, it doesn't make any difference what caused the damage.

If Chancer can't remember, what was the point of the story?  We'll never know whether the insurance company was right or wrong.
AllanB, IMO it would only have been relevant if the car was explicitly excluded from the policy. Would you really expect the policy to list that all cars belonging to neighbours and visitors were explicitly included yet they would be covered if they were damage by tiles blowing off  the roof. Still as you say not much point in continuing this discussion if Chancer can't remember the details of an old policy.

In regards to insurance in general, we find that the speed of payouts from my wife's clients' insurers varies a lot from company to company. The general tendency is that the cheaper the company the longer they take to pay up when the claim is made. Like many things in life it seems you get what you pay for

  13.
OK, if it wasn't a French policy, you won't find those words.  But the question remains: did your policy (the one you're complaining about) include damage to your car(s)?

My last sentence only repeats the same point.  Was your car included in the things covered by the policy?  If not, why should the insurer pay?
Surely the policy should cover damage caused by tiles being blown off the roof? I know I was covered when my new car had a tile land on the bonnet many years ago. My house insurance paid out both for the car repairs and for the roof repairs.

Pedants Corner. Chancer the hurricane of 87 was actually 23.5 years ago so you will need to stretch your memory even further to recall your policy details[:D].

  14. There seem to be two possibilities in this case

    1) DSK is innocent and has been framed by either the US or French. It appears there hae been rumours about his conduct in the past so this would make the allegations more likely. Sarkozy seems to have the most to gain from this so if you subscribe to the conspiracy theory then my money is on the French.

2)DSK is guilty in which case I have no sympathy at all for him. He deserves all he gets - up to 25 years in gaol according to the BBC.

It seems we have to see if they can recover the DNA from the maid's nails which should settle the matter one way or the other

  15. Here in the UK there have been quite a few items on the news recently about the effect cuts are having on services for the disabled etc. It does seem to be very variable depending on where you live. In short I get the impression that things are not as good as they were
