  1. Hi Not that it helps you, but our cat brought in a live baby rat and let it go, it took me 3 weeks to catch and kill it but in that time it eat the insulation and plastic of the fridge, we ended up with a massive hole  which i have filled with expanding foam. The cat is in the cellar! well until we have sorted the rat problem who have been attracted by the chickens and free food. Could really do with a decent mouser as opposed to an ageing one fang cat. 2. I want to put my millling machine into the top  of a split level barn, but this involves changing some of the exsisting oak beams for some steel. I have looked at and priced 200x90 IPN section steel which is ok , but I am unsure of  if it take the weight safely. The span between the walls is 3m and the mill is estimated at 1250kg placed in the centre on two IPN steels. I spoke to the steel supplier and tried internet search etc to no avail, it is not an easy thing to work out. I can but dont want to put some posts in the middle to surport from the floor. The mill along with lathe and pillar drill has spent the last 3 years in the bottom of the barn but it is so damp the rust is really big problem. The lathe a Colchester Mascot 1600 2000kg is also going up but one end will be over  a supporting wall so the mill is the heaviest  in the unsurported span. I seem to think it shouldnt be a problem as the car and motorbikes etc already stored in the barn on oak poutres with larger span   Maybe someone might know what is possible?
  3. Thanks for your help Sunday Driver as always very informative, by the way I was given this car from a friend of a friend who has now gone abroad and did'nt want it anymore. It is why my friend ( who is french) is having trouble is getting hold of him. I am told the car is straight so a day out in Cahors is all it will cost so maybe not too much to lose if it turns out to be stolen etc.
  4. I am trying to register  a Renault 5 car in my name, but before I go to the prefecture i have a question about the " Certificate de Situation". ( my prefecture is 3 hour round trip)  I have tried to download this from on-line but it is rejetee and there is a blocage on the situation of this vehicle and tells me to go to the prefecture. Is it a requirement that I have to have this form? (the car is 14 years old and I would doubt there would be any finance on it) If I need to get one, can I go to any prefecture the car is registered in a region that is 300 miles away? Can I get this cert even thou the Carte Gris is not in my name, although it says I must take the Carte Gris and some identification? I am having trouble contacting the previous owner, all he gave me was the Carte Gris (Barred) and a Certificte de Cession.
  5. Nick and Sunday driver thanks for help[,I will write to Yamaha France, did not want to try until I had some advice, written french not that good!
  6. I have a Yamaha XJR1300 which I bought new in the UK in 2002, and wish to import it if I can, but not sure with the 100bhp rule. The engine is 1251cc and produces 78.1kW (106.2HP) @ 8,000rpm,  at first i thought this was over the limit, but reading a french bike bike mag they seem to list all the powerfull bikes @ 106.2HP and not 100HP as I thought the rule was. Does anyone know if I will be able to get a type approval cert from Yamaha France without restricing it. A french freind of mine only help was for me to take it back to the UK and sell it and buy a French XJR1300 cos it will be better cos it will be a French Yam and not a Brit Yam!!  I have looked on Yamaha France website and they currently list the XJR and YZF-R1  as the above power output.   Another question, will I have to change the speedo even thou it reads both MPH and KM?
  7. Hi, We are very new to this forum, but we are sure that other people must experience the same problem as us. At the moment if we need to return to England only one of us can go, as one of us needs to stay to look after the animals. We have only been living here a couple of months are not confident to ask our neighbours, or know of any kennels to care for them, if we both return. With the summer approaching, and not wishing to take seperate holidays we wondered wether anyone has got any experience of, or is prepared to dog/cat sit ( Shepherd/lab cross, who is placid and 2 cats 1, timid and 1 friendly) with view to return the favour. Or can advise in any kennels in the St Cere area 46 Lot. We would welcome any comments. Jan & Mark.
