When do French kids get sex education ?  I was quite surprised to hear that in England now the kids get a rather "full-on" video at the age of 10(ish) but I actually don't know at what age children receive sex education in France.  Can someone enlighten me please ?

If the vendor and purchaser both had accounts in sterling, is it possible to agree to purchase a property in this currency instead of having to exchange money (effectively twice) ?

Thanks for all your replies.  My husband is French and doesn't think it's the 'done thing' to get a survey done in France and we didn't really have any problems with the last house we purchased.  I just feel that I want maximum assurances the next time round.  Did all of you have surveys done ?  Did you manage to lower the asking price on the back of it if problems came to light ? What would be the equivalent of a structural house survey in France and who would perform it and at what cost ?  We bought a house a few years back near Toulouse (have since sold it) but didn't have one done, I would however be tempted to do it for a future purchase but know that the French don't go in for surveys much.  Thanks

I've lived in France for 17 years and am married to a French military guy who is thinking of retiring soon.   We have lived in many different areas of France but want to finally settle down after years of moving around with my husband's job.  We are looking at moving to the Perpignan area next year and would love some advice as to what areas to avoid (villages that are not great etc).  We have a decent budget for a house purchase and would love to live as near to the sea as possible but not as far away from Perpignan as Collioure etc.  We used to live in Toulouse so know Collioure a little but not so much Perpignan.  We don't like areas like Argeles for holidays but don't mind living in a quiet village/town with some good facilities with easy access to working areas. We would both need to work - I'm an experienced, qualified English teacher with lots of admin skills too and speak and write fluent French.  My husband could try his hand at anything .....  We are a little worried about the job situation in this area, what are your experiences ? We have kids who would need a good 'collège' school too. Thanks for any advice, however small, we are grateful for any hints and tips.
