  1. NormanH, thanks for your advice as well -- didn't mean to leave you out of the kudos! :) Indeed, thanks to everyone for taking the time. CK
  2. Gardian and Another, thanks VERY much for the helpful responses. Things make more sense now. Being that I am only in residence at the house intermittently, I think I may be able to get away with uncoupling myself from France Telecom. I have a BlackBerry cell phone that works fine for phone and email, and people who rent my house almost always come with their own cell phones -- so generally speaking, any outage or problem wouldn't be too crippling. And yes, I'm canvassing some friends and neighbors for their thoughts on the "best" provider ("best" meaning the one that people complain about the least, just like here in the USA). In your experience, if one selects the option where the ISP takes over your FT line, do you have to contact FT yourself to let them know this is happening and not to bill you the 16 euros a month? Or does the ISP handle this automatically? CK
  3. Sorry, to clarify -- if I am NOT degroupee, does that mean I have to keep my France Telecom phone line?
  4. Thanks for the map. As far as I can tell, my village is NOT degroupee -- however, I still don't don't know what this means in terms of services that I can get/can't get..... CK
  5. Hi there -- hoping you forum members can help me out with some basic questions. I'm looking for DSL internet service for my house in the Languedoc, which I only get to for a few weeks a year (I also rent it out a bit). I checked out the Degroup Test site to see what offers are available in my town, but I'm confused about "degroupage" and what it might mean for service options. I can't tell if my village is in a zone "degroupee" or "non-degroupee." In addition, how would this designation impact what services might be available? Does it affect whether I can cancel my existing France Telecom land line service, and replace it with a service that offers Internet telephony? Thanks for any help you can provide..... Christine
