  1. I am giving the old lady beagle/bassett a lot of thought..........!!!  She will make five and I am just trying to win my husband over......OMG again!  Would love to take the little cheeky chap that has been there three years but I am thinking the little old lady is in more danger - shall we wait and see after the week-end open day?  Also he would have to be neutered before he came as we have a lady on heat here at the moment....... and he would need to be totally cat proof too.  I'm going away to mull it all over......

  2. Quite right to be suspicious and obviously there is a lot more to find out from such people - however my father rescued a young Doberman many years ago and after that we were so taken with the breed as a family that we would have certainly gone looking for another one to rescue at some point.  I am the same with Wolfhounds after having one for ten years..... but I can never turn away a Heinz 57 in need........ hence my present mottley crew!

  3. Hi Rowan/Christine and all you other wonders who help find rescue homes - I put out an appeal on AI for Carcassone spa and got the following two replies this evening after I told them all about William the Cocker spaniel today - tell me if you can find what these two people are after maybe, hopefully........ following two messages to me - hope they make sense after I copy and paste them ::

    Hi

well done for all your hard work. We are currently looking for a puppy or young dog no older than 5 months, we are specifically looking for a doberman or similar. Maybe next time you are at the spa you could ask if they have a dog that we are looking for.

Thank you very much, and kind regards. I look forward to hearing from you.

I know this is a long shot, I have looked and decided if they ever have a small dog such as chiuaha or minature poodle or yorkie.

Then I can have a dog but I have a small garden. I have lots of love and attention for something on a small scale.

It is not possible for me to take a large one, I also need a breed that has hair instead of fur.

  4. I know I've said this before, but I will continue to say it so long as I keep reading wonderful endings like this one!  It's just the greatest forum for helping animals with some truly dedicated people working so hard to make things better and some equally lovely people prepared to open their hearts and homes.  Long may it continue and people, your rewards are in the eyes of those you have saved.......always.

  5. I would be inclined to double check Rowan as this was just a quick google.  I think that a quick call to the American Embassy in Paris would be best of all.  I read it like you do but there's no harm in doing a belt an braces job is there.

  6. Bringing an Animal into the United States

    Dogs are one of the

    animal

species for which you must follow specific regulations in order to bring

    them into the U.S.

    CDC regulations

govern the importation of animals and animal products capable of

causing human disease.  Pets taken out of the United States are

subject upon return to the same regulations as those entering for the

    first time.

CDC has learned that Internet scammers are falsely representing

themselves as CDC employees in e-mails to U.S. citizens.  Learn more

The CDC does not require general certificates of health for pets

for entry into the United States. However, health certificates may be

required for entry into some states, or may be required by airlines for

pets. You should check with officials in your state of destination and

with your airline prior to your travel date.

  7. Somebody on AI forum posted me looking for a young cocker spaniel (no older than three) must be good with cats and horses - are there any at Carcassonne Rowan?  I have looked at their website but I suspect not all on there.  Have you got a plan for the little female old beagle/basset cross yet?  Is the little fellow above neutered do you know?  Is he good with cats and children?  He looks like he's very much a terrier so do you know what he's like with hens too?  Sorry lots of questions but I am trying lots of avenues for these two and these are questions that come up all the time round here as we are very rural.  You're doing sterling work and I wish I lived nearer so I could help you but I am thinking of broaching the question with my husband about fostering an old one........... why is it we have to creep round our husbands I wonder....!  Why is having 5 dogs a problem, if you've got 4 what's one more I say, especially old ones who are no trouble bless them.

  8. update - this lovely dog was taken to the vet last night and found to be around seven to nine years old, no microchip (surprise surprise) suffering from malnutrition and anemia but otherwise a nice dog with an incredible temperament!  Looks like she will have the puppies quite soon and the lady that took her in is trying desperately to hang on to her till then. She is going to try to get some pics to me which I will post on here but she is a rather lovely Wiemarana type.  Will keep this post up-dated as and when I hear more.

  9. If anyone can help out with this dog I have the lady's telephone number and email address - she's prepared to travel to bring the dog to the right home as she tells me this dog is an absolute angel.. amazing with children, and bomb proof with other dogs, cats and chickens.

    She has

been here for two days,i found her rooting through my rubbish.i have

been giving her lots of little meals and she has been drinking alot.i

have de-wormed her and de-ticked her as she was absolutly covered in

    them.
All her bones are sticking out, she is emaciated. Her teats are

big and she is producing a little milk,so i think the pups are due

    soon.
2 years ago a stray turned up in a similar condition,he

is still here. But there is no way i am allowed to keep her. It's a shame

because shes a really special dog,my little boy has named her

    'Princess'.She is a french Braque,a beautiful breed.
    We live

near Condom,if anybody knows of someone who will look after her ,please

let me know,as i am falling in love with her!and time is running out.I

would be prepared to travel a long way ,if she went to the right

place. We are due to move out of our house for the summer to rented

accomodation which is alot smaller, and so i know its not viable to keep

her.My partner has suggested taking her to SPA tonight,it would break my

    heart to do this.
I will run her to the vets today,to check

    for a chip,but i don't hold much hope.
  11. I'm posting this from another forum (again) because you are all so good on here!  Another sad and critical situation if anyone can help out even just in the short term till she has her puppies?

    A

lovely natured Dog (heavily pregnant)( type Braque) has arrived at our

house, does anyone know anybody who rescues dogs in this region? She has

a sweet nature and is a terrible state.................

  12. Phew!  Thanks for that.  Do you think the grants will still be available in a few years time if the technology becomes cheaper?  The temptation is to go for it now whilst the grants seem generous and plan for the long term returns - but we accept what you say about the updated technology and more effective systems coming on line.  We are not youngsters and may not see the return in our lifetime (given the math as they say) but whoever comes after us will presumably and you have to make a start somewhere to conserve energy?  Other Half is just reading that it takes four to ten years to recover the energy it takes to manufacture the equipment needed....... it's frustrating isn't it.

  13. If this is the correct place to post this question please read on...?  We are contemplating going this route and was wondering if anyone on here has done it - i.e. in simple terms, having the panels put on your roof by a specialised company - cost of such being refunded by the government via a tax impot and then EDF paying you an annual sum for the power generated.  We would like to hear from anyone who has had this done and their experience or the research they did etc.  Many thanks.

  14. You may be rubbish at posting pics (so am I as it happens and always have to ask my OH....... who always responds with a long sigh!!) but you can pat yourself on the back for all the effort you have put in recently - maybe Diana (who looks adorable) will win your OH over given some melting looks and a bit of time...........there is always a way to a man's heart in the end!!
