  1. Yes please - my post was from last year (Alleycat) as I was then called but I had to change as I lost my password and was totally useless at sorting it out in those days........!!  I've been taking the medication!  No really, I would still love to receive knitted squares to make up as blankets for the dogs in the refuges - as many as you can muster before your fingers seize up!  I will PM you my address!  Thank you.

  2. Hey!  Looks like Sampson will have a home!  Lovely lady who works for the Hope Association contacted me through Sue at Poorpaws and says there is a family really interested in having him provided he gets on with their two other dogs - they have just lost their old labrador and Sampson really took their fancy.  So I have my fingers crossed that things will work out of the next few days - will tell the ending when I know it!

  3. Moon is just under two years old and is going to be put down at Carcassonne within the next week!  They are full beyond brimming at the moment.  Rowan is leaving to work away on Friday and she's desperate to get this little sweetie away to save her but isn't able to take her out to rescue her as she won't be there.  She has sent this SOS this evening (as she only heard today that she's to be amongst the 'cull' next week) for Moon in the hope that someone will want her as she's so gorgeous.  Please can anyone help?? I will post a picture after this.

  4. Think all that can be done has been done now and a foster home is being sought till a new home can be found for Poppy!  Here is the latest from AI forum:-

Just to keep people up to speed.....

The Bristol Evening Post are very keen to run a story about Poppy,

so we are supplying them with a photo and information and hopefully that

    will be published this week.

Radio Bristol are going to give us some airtime to tell Poppy's story.

The kind people from DogLost in the UK http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog_blog.php?dogId=25088
    have

Poppy's details and have begun looking for her owner. They're even

going to knock on doors in the Park Roads of Bristol, the address we

have for Poppy to see if anyone knows anything about her.

    We

also believe that the Barton we're trying to trace was once a student

at UWE, Bristol, so we have contacted their Alumni office. Although

they can't confirm anything (data protection!) they have promised to

email the person, if they have their details, with details of Poppy.

I think we can honestly say that if we don't find her owner after this, then they don't want to be found!

  5. Hey thanks for that Rob Roy - and yes the local papers in Bristol have been contacted as have the vets in the area and the local radio station!  People have certainly rallied round this little lady!  However, I am inclined to agree with Jouals - I think she has been abandoned because she was found in July and no one has come forward to look for her..........  If someone lost her whilst on holiday then surely the first place they would try would be the local refuge before leaving?  I am wondering if her passport was maybe not in order and she's just been left to raom the streets but I find it hard to believe anyone could be so heartless to this little old thing.  I am begging some kind person to get her out of there and then I PROMISE I will find her a home if it's the last thing I do so whoever looks after her need not worry they will have to keep her.

  6. Hope fading for this little lady - she's old and must so terribly confused and scared in Toulouse SPA, it's huge and very frightening.  A closer picture of her shows she has cateracts and so I'm guessing she's quite elderly and she won't last long in there as they, like all the others, are full to busting!  She's tiny and won't take up much space!  We must try to help her - she's English too and must be feeling very lonely!

  7. A little old dog was found wandering the streets of Toulouse back in July.  She was found to have a microchip in the name of Barton from Bristol.  Nobody has claimed her and there a big search going on thanks to a lady on AngloInfo (also called Barton whom the dog was thought to belong to) to try to find her owners.  You can read about it on a little webpage that has been set up for her and there is a picture on here :- http://ineedahome.yolasite.com/poppy.php.  If anyone reading this can help please get in touch soon as the poor little mite is suffering and also because she is old and the SPA at Toulouse is huge and overflowing....... well need I say more?  Thanks.

  8. I can recommend some excellent pet sitters (very reasonable rates by the way) and whilst they are always pretty much booked, they are here in France and have some other very good contacts.  It's often a better solution as the dogs is so much happier in his own surroundings and without all the other dogs barking etc.  Also you have the added benefit that your home is also looked after and these people come with the highest integrity and experience with a lot of animals but particularly dogs as they love them very much.  Please pm me for their rates and more details if you think it would be interested.  I know them personally so have no problem at all recommending them.

  9. Please can you help if you live near Carcassonne?  The SPA there is bulging with lovely dogs of all sizes and breeds who need to get out of their cages for walks every now and then.  There is an English lady who volunteers there most days of the week who does what she can but desperately needs others to help her out and join her doing this.  If you live near and have a few spare hours a week to spend helping these beautiful dogs and could join this lady - maybe even form a dog walking group to help this very worthy cause - you would be doing something really really worthwhile.  There are fields just outside the refuge where they walk and play with the dogs and nothing more is asked of you.  Please, if you can do this, pm me and I can put you in touch with this lady.  Thank you.

  10. Just to bring this up to date.  Skye is still looking for a good home but due to a lot of time wasters and quite unpleasant people wanting Skye, her owner very correctly hung on to her despite the difficulties.  As things have now turned out Skye's owner Vanessa has now decided for family reasons to return home to the UK to be with her mother who is quite ill.  She and her partner are planning to sell up in France and are already looking for a place with more land back in Lincolnshire where she can keep Skye with ease.  Skye has always had an up to date passport so no worries there and Vanessa is hoping that things will change for the better.  However, should a really smashing home materialise in the meantime which would mean that Skye was top dog in a household and Vanessa approved the home, she would willingly let her go for the good of the dog in the long term.  So please go and look at Skye at the link at the beginning of this post if you like and understand the breed (Alaskan Malamute).  She has had a difficult summer but has been such a good dog throughout and poor Vanessa has travelled hundreds of kms visiting potential homes that turned out to be just awful.  I would love Skye to find her special home if possible but failing that, hope that Vanessa can pull off the move for the benefit of all.

  11. Let's just get going on the ones you think will be the easiest/more likely to appeal (I know we love them all but you know what I mean) and that are at risk of course.  Whom ever we manage to find a home for will mean one less near the top of the list n'est pas? I am going to go and have a look at how I might get on this guy's webpage when I have a moment later today.

  12. Not sure I'd be any good as a blogger Russethouse - I suffer from verbal diahrrea (never can spell this word!) at the best of times and would make a total hash of it but someone else might be much more usefully employed at it for sure - anything that brings people into the rescue arena is worthwhile doing and I'm sure there would be no shortage of content that we could help suppy!

  13. I'm sure.  I can't take any more dogs on as I really think I would test my OH too much and in any case the house is just not big enough!  So I want to make time to help in other ways and a few hours on the PC is a small pull on my day if it can help at all.  My dream is to be able to build some super comfortable kennels next year perhaps (when the house is finished) and have some no-hopers in danger to keep safe and foster till people can help me find homes - it's so often just a question of the time that makes the difference in being able to get them out before the hammer falls...... as we know only too well eh Rowan!

  14. Now that's something I didn't know Christine!  I have had a few run-ins with AI about not being able to put a chip number or tattoo because basically the dogs don't have one in most of the refuges and the powers that be at AI wouldn't budge to help saying it was the law and so forth.  They never mentioned that you could put the siret number of the refuge instead!  That puts a whole new slant on it - thanks!
