thanks Folks for the help so far. With my depleting brain cells,my system info shows 512MB RAM,and local disc C,presumably the hard drive, shows as34.4GB. The remaining capacity is showing as 6.7GB when I look at the properties. The file search shows 2700 files, most of which are double dutch to me.The mystery deepens. maude

Hi folks. My 5 year old Dell computer is now showing only1/4 remaining hard drive capacity.I do not have photos or unnecessary programmes on the drive-all deleted that arent used. However I do have a cart load of Microsoft Net framework 2.0 service2,Net3 service2,and Net 3.5 SPI whatever these are. Also a trillion windows updates showing! Can all these be removed safely?Do hard drives lose their storage capacities with age?Any advice welcome!!! Maude.

Just recently had another"valuation" to be told that they would only be interested if the price was so low that no effort would be required.thats not selling but running a remunerative charity!!! Maude

Why such secrecy about the location of a property for sale.I have heard all the previous blurb from agents etc re the possibility of " back deals" and the loss of income, but I know the areas I want to live near me.I wouldnt believe the difficulties on rejecting agents offered properties in locations I,m not interested in,and then they WANT 5-7%!!!Save all the wasted time, mileage and bring fees down to a sensible level!Everyone may then benefit including agents. It should also in a country that deems "qualifications" paramount ,to ensure agents are compelled to gain certification in photography.I have never ever seen such bismal photo,s and descriptions. There, feel much better ,but am still depressed on realising a sale, but more importantly a purchase. Like wise,I was followed to the door by a Sri lankan table cleaner/waiter at a local outdoor feeding station in Singapore after leaving a small change on the table after using the pay loo.there was absolutely no offence/drama/or embarrassment to either party except a big wholehearted smile from the waiter.Very good soul treatment!!! Ive heard many reports that some ,not all, do not have full compliance with the French "Norm" depending as usual here with which departmental SPANC you are involved in.Just tread carefully as when I made similar investigations/quotes after spending potentially trillions of euros,I still had to install a filter bed and there was no gurrantee it would be accepted. provided you have enough lifetime expectancy to recoup the capital outlay.I,ve had a look at most things "green" and would have to live until about 120 to recover any costs.Would LOVE to be proved wrong mind! Maude

Will whole heartedly agree with Sprogster.DO NOT give up any assets in uk-it is a non return valve coming here.Rent do not buy property. If we had done that, what a different way things would have panned out rather than the way it has.Even following the uk news and the problems,we never had them in the suburbs of a large northern town where we lived before.Love lots of things here, but getting older ,isnt something to welcome in the rurales Think hard Maude

Mon ami has recently had hospitalistion for keyhole surgery to the shoulder and vertebrae. On leaving hospital after 4 days ,300e was demanded as payment for surgery. His top up mutuelle will not pay this as it is deemed to be the discrepancy between what the State pays and the surgeons latest payment demand.I was told this was a new "alteration" to the system brought about by surgeons wanting a bigger payment and the government passing these onto the punters. Can someone re explain this in words of simple meanings! If true will vacate this place irrespective of any losses.Already food bills are stronomic without worrying additionally. it seems that bidets are out of fashion en France for some unknown reason. We had the same problem 7 years ago when refitting the so called french bathroom. It seems to match the same culture of not fitting a wash hand basin in their prediliction for completely seperate toilets. And then there is allegedly all this enforcement in fosse septiques conforming toxxxxxxxxxxx maude

we have recently had problems with the supply to our water heater,in that the connectors to the thermostat have burned away.It is a steatite model, with the element in a tube within the cylinder.I have removed the element, cleaned out all the debris/dust from the tube, and gently cleaned the elements of dust.It is connected to a disjoncteur via a time clock. On two occasions the terminal joints to the thermostat have burned away but mainly on the neutral.Anyone any usefull ideas as to the cause and or remedy.Thanks-Maude

Just had my medical 2 days ago cost 24.40 euros.Specific doctors only and not your own medecin even if he is authorised as mine is .So went to the other one authorised in our town.Had no problems until I got to the sous prefecture with my photos taken in the booth at the local Intermarche. They didnt conform to the French Norm!!!!had to spend yet another trip to town and another4 euros for another set taken this time at Leclercs!!! Maude.

I am 67 and tow a uk but French registered caravan. To maintain the correct part of the license part B ,I think off hand,I do have to have a 2 year medical. After 76 it is every year.If under 60 then I dont think a medical is required. The weight limitation is gross 500kg I believe.Otherwise no problems exchanging the license as both of us have done.Dont need to carry passport now as ID. Maude.PS Never ever met a French caravanner who has to follow the same or they just ignore it.

Just a thought that crossed my mind this morning.what is the position in France legally on protecting self and family in the home environment in the event of unlawfull intrusion by burglars etc.Seems to have caused some problems past in the uk where action by the housholder has been deemed to be excessive. As most French seem to have access to firearms of one form or another, this would seem to be the action taken by them.Would like to know what the situation is in French law. Maude
