1. I try my best with my neighbours, but sometimes I say something and they get the blank look, probably the wrong word or ive said it the wrong way, but then again our french neighbour chatters away to us, somethings we understand other we dont.

Think it is really nice that one of them now says 'Good Morning', his only bit of english.

I did manage to tell his wife how to make the jelly I had given her, just to be on the safe side I wrote it down as well for her, really pleased when they do understand tho.

I am deaf but with a cochlear implant, so only hear (sort of) in one ear,so understanding takes a lot of concentration
  2.
Hi

Having checked out LHD car prices and failed to win the Euro millions we have taken the plunge and purchased a four year old UK registered Renault Laguna diesel car. For the foreseeable future we are planning to base it in our house in Pezenas and use it for our, and family visits.

I have a few questions and will be very grateful for your experience’s.

How long will it roughly take to complete the re-registration? I ask this as I suspect that it will probably require us to use it for a few months as a UK taxed and insured vehicle.

I have found German sourced LHD headlamps on Ebay. Are they available in France as grey market (non main dealer supplied).

Can anyone please point me in the direction of an English speaking insurance broker/website as my French only extends to ordering food and drink.

And finally as I have read on this site a certificate of conformity is required, can this be obtained in the UK.

    Thank you.
We bought a lhd car in Uk, we insured this in UK with a policy which meant we could take it abroad, we got all the necessary paperwork ready before we left for France.

On arrival we got a CT on the car, visited the tax office and then the prefecture, got car re-registed within 2 hours. Got new number plates on the way home. Two days later through the post we got the official registration documents.

Once we got home, we informed dvla that we had exported the car and have now insured the car through CA Britline.

Just one thing I have to check, reading another thread on here.. maybe wrongly... I need to check that the insurance is valid as we are not french residents, although the car is now on french plates and CA Britline know we live in England.

Provided you have the correct paperwork and the car passes the CT you can do the re-registration in one day.
  3. I thought it looked ok, would prefer to see the price on the Home Page. Dont know your area so cannot comment on price.

I would be put off by the picture from down the road, showing the side of the neighbouring building, however nice the house was this would put me off viewing..jmo

    Good luck

  4. Im probably a lurker.

We have had a place in France for 10 years now, visit as often as we can.

I love France, hope to live over there in the not to distant future and find this forum very informative re health, culture etc, probably the rules will change before I get there, but I like to keep uptodate with these things.

I dont post often, as I dont feel I have much to contribute - yet.

Also, with someone in the same position say as Cooperola, who is poorly at the moment, forums can provide daily contact with people,as good a tonic as anything.

I will continue to lurk and learn lol

  6. Thank you Dave,

My letter starts like that and then in a later paragraph:

En appliquant les taux d'imposition votes l'annee derniere, votre taxe fonciere s'eleverait a 666euros Ce montant ne tient pas compte des eventuelles exonerations dont vous pourriez beneficier.

Which I read as an increase in the Fonciere tax.

Last year the base was 379,cotisation 70, so presume would now be 666,less the cotisation.
