Not too lively, eh?

The forum seems to be having a quiet moment which just about describes my state, being throughly spoiled by Loiseau and remembering the care given by those lovely masked nurses, particularly in the last stages before dodo and cutcut. I discovered the same phenomenon as with masked Arab ladies who are able to weave amazing stories, invitations and promises just with their eyes. The nurses even hold you hand as you drift off!

Now walking again, gentle stuff on the flat round the village, perhaps sleeping better and being pestered by the dog to throw her pig in the garden.

But glory of glories, had a guy round to service the satellite dishes and change the odd bit which means I finally have all the Freesat channels back again so can indulge even more and L. can watch Traitors in peace.

Have found that delivery people are more than happy to carry heavy objects into the house when they know one can’t, and that with a smile. That’s Colissimo, of course.

More whenever; meanwhile folks, how about some diary type postings, see what we are all up to?

Glad you are still on the mend Wooly.  And you can watch more TV now during your 'rest periods.'

Here, we've just been surviving three days of non stop rain, posting on here seemed irrelevant by comparison.  However, I can now say the rain has finally stop!  Phew!  This time we didn't loose power and whilst we have buckets placed around the house - old beams - it seems the worst is over!  It was much worse over Norman's way, the river flooded as did several others, all well know spots for it .. roads flooded, schools stopped .. happily ? my doctor had to cancel my appointment with kids of school age stuck at home, but she rang to re-schedule and check that all was OK ...so I didn't finally have to go out in it all ... but have a nice day out planned for tomorrow, and hoping that the floods really are gone now!

These beautiful scenes which many of us enjoyed are now long long.  In our residence, the melting snow revealed the shoddy workmanship of a company who were called in before Christmas to repair a main rainwater drain pipe, which failed.

I have many faults (most of which my wife takes great pleasure in pointing out).  One of which is my inability not to sort out  (what to me) is obvious faults in our buildings.  This included the defective repair of the main rainwater drain .  The leak ran like a tap for several days, causing huge pools of water in the lower garage areas, apart from the possible long term damage to the internal structure.  I spent 5 minutes with some duct tape and a piece of string to reduce the flow by 95%.  The company which the syndic have being trying to contact are supposed to return to repair their repair this Friday.

I have been on the conseil syndical since we moved in, so I know the difficulties of finding companies to come in and do work.  Still, this situation infuriated me.  A "Macgyver'd" repair I know, but I have the feeling people teeter on the edge of accusing me of interfering.   "A chacun son metier"  seems to mean people will do nothing rather than solve a problem.  I offered to make the repair 100% effective "officially" but was not taken up.

One half of me feels I should walk away from such things, the the other half keeps winning out!

Lehaut, how well I know how you feel, that is the bit of your post referring to the difficulty of finding people who will come and do the work.  And that is before the people do come in and do work that is not to your satisfaction.

My OH, man and boy in one capacity or other employed in the building trade (building surveyor and architect and still fully paid up member in France) may now be retired and elderly but there are no flies on him when it comes to anything connected with defects in building.  Nowadays, I have to caution him about voicing too vociferously the work that "artisans" do for us......for fear that no one will ever come again when things need doing!

Our village church has had structural damage in the clock tower for months and the mairie have spent thousands on various occasions to have the necessary work done. OH knows exactly what work is needed, his having taken on work hanging tons of church bells and doing legally required 5-yearly surveys of church buildings throughout the UK.  But I do know the score, that one you have mentioned about only specialists doing only the one type of work.

No wonder you rarely find someone starting in one métier and training in another discipline.  Sacre bleu, how can that be allowed?

Note to everyone, don't forget quiet is good, boring is good, staying at home and unable to go out is also...er....good.

Wait till Trump really does want to get Greenland by fair means but probably foul......when the smelly brown stuff hits the fan, we will look back on our days of carefree tranquillity and the Forum appearing half moribund.

As some ancient Greek philosopher has said:  The strong do what they can and, the weak suffer what they must.
