tonyv
And here we are, up our mountain in the pyrennees; all geared up for the stuff, but have we seen any? not a flake! Ah well, driving back to Buckinghamshire next weekend; guess we'll get our share!
KathyF
They certainly do get snow in the mountains in Cyprus. I have vivid memories (and photos to prove it) of standing in deep snow in the Troodos mountains in February, in bright sunshine and short sleeves. Cendrillon
Do not even think of coming over to the U.K at the moment. Gatwick and Edinburgh airports are closed, it's chaos on many roads and rail networks, best to stay at home wherever you are.Stay warm you'all. Gardian
We had a bit of snow yesterday evening, but nothing to speak of. Thought we'd stick with the plan to go down to Nimes today for a bit of Crimbo shopping.Got to the motorway (A9) and on approaching Nimes (heading SW towards Montpellier) we found that there was a sort-of 'Operation Stack' on the other northbound carriageway. Probably 15kms of lorries, two lanesworth, and undoubtedly loads more back down towards Montpellier.Nimes was predictably a bit snarled up, but we did our shopping and returned on the backroads. It seems that the motorway is closed due to snow up around Valence. Ironically, it was a nice afternoon in Nimes - sunny and temp up around 14C.

At the risk of sounding unsympathetic it has been like this for most of the time on the Mediterranean plain, with people having coffee out in the sun on Monday lunchtime, although today has been spoiled by a cold breeze.. "coffee out in the sun on Monday lunchtime". Blooming city slickers.[:P]He's right though - staggering difference between the climates just 60kms apart. Got back here to gloom & 4C. Gardengirl
Just got back from a walk with our local group - 7km in lovely sunshine, no wind; just beautiful views of the vines and garrigue. We left SE England yesterday, and are pleased to miss today's snow there! [:)]
PaulT
Paul - no snow in Boulogne at the moment (in fact it's quite sunny, but very wet as it poured all day yesterday) - doesn't look like we're forecast it for the weekend in this area - the forecast says snow at 500 m. We'll just get the rainOf course they could be wrong.....!!Lou
Lou, thanks for your reply. We drove down on the 27th and the snow was coming down thick and fast in places. They had stacked the lorries in 2 places on the A20 and I thought 'why, the roads are clear'. We then pulled in to a service area and it was a very different story.Woke up to snow on Friday and hoped we would mnot get snowed in as we did in January. It gave a different view of the countryside and thawed quite quickly.Saturday - very cold and lots of black ice. However, clear blue sky with superb views of the mountains.Left yesterday and hoping it would be warmer and it was so no ice to contend with on the roads to the Autoroute. What a journey back - rain, sleet, snow and fog.In the Limousin some of the roads visible from the Autoroute looked extremely trecherous. On the A71 there was a lorry on its side down the embankment. Interesting different surfaces on the A71 - two different types, one had water just lying on top ofit - ideal for freezing, and the other a rougher surface with no water on it.Paul
