I wasn't listening properly, but I think that I heard on R4 news that the flag has been owned by a family in Australia. It was returned to Britain for sale and that the new American owner is looking to it remaining in England.

But next time I shall listen more attentively ....
Which particular values did you have in mind Wooly, pressgangs, sodomy or the lash?[:P]
Sodomy is now legal and even encouraged, the lash is much sought after in certain quarters and press ganging is called working in call centres.

I was thinking of a seagoing tradition; looking outwards from the island and a more entrepreneurial spirit

Perhaps you'd like to translate “blown away” the owners comment on the eventual sale price.
Incidentally the original owner was a press-ganged hero James Clephan, from Fife in Scotland, began life as a weaver, but was press-ganged aged 26, one of only 16 men in naval history to have risen so high after being press-ganged.
