idun
Don't know if this has been mentioned in the past, but last night it was mentioned on french news that some communes have in fact taken up the option of increasing the taxe d'hab for second home owners by a further 20%. One lady who was interviewed usually pays 2000€ per year and this year it is now 2400€, so much for the myth of french property taxes being low (ours was never low either). Gardengirl
Something at the back of my mind says it might only be for Paris and selected large cities - anybody remember the same?
idun
Quite a few places have done it, ie Cran Gevrier, which is a town in the Haute Savoie, has decided not to use this right to collect the extra tax. And yet quite a few places have put it in place already. The more that do it, I would imagine the cash strapped mairies will be considering doing it too. I have no idea if it would apply to communes below a certain population though.
