Rob Roy
We love smoked mackeral but I have yet to find it here. Does anyone know if it is sold in France?
Chrissie
They have it in our local Leclerc - near the lumpfish, smoked salmon etc. Usually vacuum-packed.Chrissie (81)
pachapapa
Also conserved in bend back tins with ring pulls.Have you tried bloaters, called bouffis in french, delicious, always herring.
Rob Roy
Yes we have, or at least my husband has, but I'm not so keen. I used to like using fresh smoked mackeral as a starter or for a light lunch with salad or for making a pate which I suppose you could do with the tinned stuff, although the only tinned mackeral I've seen is either in white wine or mustard sauce and not smoked. I've only ever seen herring fillets vacuum packed, but when I next go to a LeClerc (the nearest is about 30 kms from us) I'll have a look. Thanks for the suggestions. pachapapa
Yeah the mustard and oil ones are popular, must admit I am partial to the mustard ones. Lidl have got german ones in ring pulls, delicious. But the shrink packs seem to be ubiquitous.

NormanH
I get peppered mackerel not really smoked but not the tinned sort in Marché plus which is part of the Carrefour empire, so you might find that in your local Carrefour
woolybanana
It was there in the Super U fish section today, vacuum packed
Rob Roy
Ah, now SuperU is our 'local' so I'll have a look, thanks Wooly. All the 'big' supermarkets/hypermarkets are at least 30 kms in Brive or Limoges and I rarely go to either if I can help it![:)]
woolybanana
Look in the prepacked fish section. But Super U and Hyper U are franchises so stock does vary a bit. By the way, could you smoke your own?
