crossy67
Might sound like a daft question but is there such a thing as an onion season? Tomatoes here are €0.80/kg at the moment but I can't believe the price of onions in the big supermarkets. We usually buy the 5kg sacks but haven't been able to find any recently. With all these cheap tomatoes about I'd like to start making sauces to freeze but the price of the onions is so expensive it's putting me off. Patf
I'm bringing ours inside now, to dry out and store. So you might find they become cheaper soon.

Alex H
I find large onions are always expensive - however if ther is a Grand Frais near you they sell large onions in 5kg sacks.
plod
In my local Intermarché a kilo of ginger was cheaper than a kilo of red onions.

Rob Roy
It may have something to do ith the very hot spring/early summer we had that has affected the crop. I know my onions were very slow to start and they are not a big this year as they were last year due to lack of water.
