EmilyA
OH bought me this book by Caroline Moorehead for Christmas. It is about women in the French resistance, mostly in Paris and around Bordeaux who were captured, imprisoned and eventually shipped off to a concentration camp. There were 230 women and girls to start with, but the majority of them died (especially the younger and the older women); the 49 survivors supported each other all the way through until they were eventually liberated and returned to France. The author managed to track down the surviving women and interviewed three of them. It is a harrowing read, but an extraordinary account of friendship under the most extreme conditions. Ariège Author
Really looking forward to reading this - have had it on my wish-list for a while and will be buying it in the New Year. Good to know you thought it worth while although I can imagine parts of it will be hard to read.
