Water meters

Has anyone out there had a dodgie water meter and how did you prove it??!!

With all the house isolated and the garden taps checked for leaks above and below ground our water meter 'little wheel' still goes round.

I am getting the water board out next Tuesday but if it is the meter how do I/ they prove it

Try turning the meter off...............if it stops you almost certainly have a leak somewhere between the meter and the house.

Unless it's sitting in a pool of water (if it's under a slab, in a

hole in the ground) or above a suspiciously damp patch (if it's

indoors) don't blame the meter.

I'm sorry to tell you, but if the little wheel is going round then

you've got a leak somewhere. If all the appliances and garden taps etc.

are above suspicion, then chances are you have a sprung underground

joint which is weeping or a cracked pipe.

Really, there's no way the little wheel will go round unless there is water flowing through it.

Have to agree with GP, here.

The water meter is power by water flow over the paddles (which turn the dials: it is basically a flowmeter).

The bad news is that everything, after the meter is down to you, in terms of repair cost and responsibility.

I have recently (last year) had a new meter and pipe feed: luckily for moi, the meter was inside the house, so the water syndicat had to pay for everything!
