Liz
We are looking to buy a wood burning stove, we heard that there was a 50% reduction available from the government called eco tax. The shop informed us that as we did not pay income tax in France we are not entitled to this 50% tax reduction. Does any one know the legal ins and outs of this tax please. Benjamin
Welcome to the Forum Liz.You have to be fiscally resident i e paying tax here in France (plus a few other bits and pieces) to get the discount. Can you clarify that situation first? Lou
That's correct, you have to submit a tax return in France to get this - it's actually a tax credit. In other words you get 50 percent of the cost of your stove (but not the labour involved if you have someone to install it) knocked off your income tax bill. We've just done this on our tax return this year - it means they owe us money!Lou
Chas
You need to be completing a tax return in france and to provide a single receipt for supply and installation with your tax return from the supplier of the stove, who must also be the installer. You do not have to pay tax in France. The fact that you declare your worldwide (UK) income in France is sufficient. Although I understood the rebate was supposed to go up to 50% from 40% this year we have today received a cheque for 40% - most welcome.[:D]
Chas
Having had another look at the receipt for the poele I made a mistake in the original calculation. The rebate received is what we expected - 50% of the cost of the poele excluding accessories and labour.
