Will Posted January 18, 2007 Share Posted January 18, 2007 When we went to Sancerre and the surrounding area last year we stayed at Château Belair, Arcay, about 15km from Bourges (Gites de France). Not that close to Sancerre itself, but a wonderful place in a pleasant region. Great welcome and incredible value for a château. Rather 'shabby chic' but that's all part of the attraction of such places.There are places in or near Sancerre in Gites de France, but nothing seemed to offer the right standard, value or ambience when we looked - apologies if any of the owners are reading this.The setting of Sancerre is beautiful, but unless you are an alcoholic with a particular penchant for sauvignon blanc I think you will need to travel a bit further afield, to places like Bourges or even down in to Burgundy, on a 2-week stay.
