Causette Posted August 22, 2004 Share Posted August 22, 2004 Can anyone help please? There is a house in Lisieux (14) which has a statue set into a niche in the wall. This statue is of a man who could be either a saint, a bishop, or even a king (difficult to tell which). Anyway, said chap has his head in his hands. A friend has a vague recollection of a story of someone who was beheaded and got up and carried his head... Anyone know any more about who this could be?Thanks! Barter Posted August 22, 2004 Share Posted August 22, 2004 Hi,I think it's likely to be St Denis - the patron saint of France, who was put to death on "The Martyr's Hill" - Montmartre.(c. 250AD?)The crowd was amazed to see Denis's corpse pick up the head & carry it under his arm to the site where now stands the cathedral of St. Denis.Feast day; 9th Oct.Barbara.
