CUTTING DOWN TREES

Generally speaking the answer is no, it would be unusual for there to be a restriction on cutting down trees in your garden. If you think that for some reason the trees in question may be important you should enquire at your local DDE, but I'm assuming that you don't consider them to have importance.

Normally such restrictions are imposed on very old or interesting village trees and the like, or on certain historic avenues. When a tree, or trees, are protected a Permit to destroy from the DDE is required before any removal can take place. The same applies for woodland that is marked as "Bois" on the cadastrial plan, it can be felled as long as it is allowed to regrow, if the roots are to be dug out, a Permit is required.

Hi Melon,

Just a very good word of advice here without trying to be rude in any way,

Make sure you know what your doing, ie the cut will depend on the fall, also if this tree is large it may have acted as a wind duct for your house chimmney

So if you do remove the tree and when you lite the fire and have smoke not leaving the pot on very windy day,s you,ll know why,

just a word of warning .you may need a cowel if one isnt fitted now.

regards .
