Change of use of outbuildings

We are considering purchasing a farm property which has adjoining outbuildings i.e. large garage, barn and piggery. A part of the barn has already started to be converted to living accomodation and we would like to finish the alterations to provide two gites as holiday lets. The garage would be converted to provide more living accomodation to the main house. We understand that we would need to apply to the Maire for a CU to grant a change of use. Can anybody advise whether we should ask the vendor of the property to perhaps obtain this permission as a condition of sale as we do not want to purchase and then find that permission is not granted?

You will find that this topic has been covered elsewhere, but the short answer is - if you don't want to buy the house without being able to convert the outbuildings, include provision of a CU as a clause suspensive in the Compromis de Vente. It shouldn't delay the purchase as it takes 6-8 weeks to be processed.
