Gite registration

We have just finished building a gite in the Pas-de-Calais, and our next-door neighbour (who is English, but not particularly thrilled with our gite plans) told us that we need to register our gite. Does anyone know of any regulations which require us to register with anyone (tourist board/ chambre de commerce?) before we rent out the gite? We are UK resident - does this make any difference?

Our accountant regards gites as non-professional income and as such has stated that it is not neccesary to "inform" anyone of this business...apart from declaring the income to the taxman that is.
Unless of course someone else knows better!!

He might mean that you have to register with the Mairie, in order for them to adjust your council tax bill. We pay an extra amount per year for rubbish collection etc. as we have two gites which create a lot mor rubbish during the season.
