Where to filter from

I am not a pool expert, I have the same set-up, and I keep both the skimmers and the drain/sump open all the time for filtration.

I only close off the drain and one of the skimmers for manual vacuuming.

It is all about circulating as much water through the filtration system as you can, the drain/sump takes a lot of the deeper water through the system.

I am sure Andrew (Poolguy) who is a very experienced and knowledgable contributor on this forum will comment, especially if they disagree with my advice.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, I just thought that with the sump open maybe the skimmers wont be so efficient with the surface water

As long as you monitor your water level you should be able to draw just from the skimmers. Most people keep the skimmers fully open and just 'crack' the bottom drain. Obviously when vacuuming you use the aspirator inlet and adjust the taps accordingly.

Wils,

I had not heard that before, but in my case I have a salt water pool, I need to circulate as much water as possible, so as to allow the produvtion of chlorine, so in my case the sump/drain outlet stays open.

It may be differnt for direct chlorine pools.

Andrew (poolguy) may be able to help us on the one.
