Filling in form CA8454 to get an S1 for family

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm moving to France in May to spend 12 months working in France. The company tax advisor has advised that I can stay on UK tax and NI if it's under 2 years, same for the company. We've also been told we need to get an S1 to get access to the french healthcare system. This much is clear but I'm not clear on the following:

I'm moving out with my pregnant wife and 2 small children, she will be on maternity leave and will have the baby there. I think that the S1 will cover all of us, anyone know for sure?

Can anyone give advice on how to fill in the form CA8454 for my circumstances? I want to get this certificate before I go, HMRC said it's possible but I keep getting conflicting advice when I phone. It's not clear to me whether I'm supposed to appear as though I'm already in France or if I'm in the UK!

Thanks!!

The S1 covers you and your dependents.

Just give them the facts. If you're going to be in France as from May, tell them so and they will issue an S1 that starts on 1 May or whatever date you give them. Why would you want to pretend to be in France if you're not, it would only risk causing confusion later. You need to be covered in the UK up until you move, and in France after you move, so they need to know the dates.

When you get your S1 you take it to CPAM when you arrive in France, and CPAM issue you with an 'attestation'. It is the 'attestation' that gives you the right to healthcare, not the S1 form. So even if you got your S1 now, you couldn't get your 'attestation' before you have arrived in France.
