Hello, could someone tell me what the French call these...

Zinc weld-through primer

seam sealer

flexible adhesive not silicone sealer - stuff like sikaflex or soudal.

And does anyone know where I could buy these and normal consumables for reasonable money? The prices for cutting and grinding discs, MIG welder tips etc here make me weep, so I have been getting them sent through ebay uk, but would like to find a reasonable local supplier. Brico shops and local motor factors are all very expensive, often 2 or 3 times what I could find them for easilly in UK.

Thanks,

Dave.

Tell me about it Dave!! I could add alot of other things to your list like body schutz etc etc. Like you I stock up in the UK usually at Maccess for automotive stuff.

I have found a cheap non marque "mastic polyurethane" alternative to Sikaflex a brico-depot, its pretty much the same stuff  just a lot cheaper and much slower drying which suits me for general building bodging but perhaps not for body repairs.

They also sell Sikaflex in a range of colours for €5.68 for a 310ml cartouche.

Many moons ago when I rebuilt a succession of written off Sierras I found that I could glue the front wings on with sikaflex avoiding welding and refinishing the weld areas before painting, I shunted  one of them and it held as well as the welded wing if not better.

My Friend teaches languages at a lycée professional that specialises in motor bdy repair so I will ask her to ask in the workshop for the trade names of the primer and seam sealer, however they break for les grand vacance in a few days and she is not technical, when we had an English group visit it was easier for me to translate during the workshop tour than her despite her being my tutor.
