Sealing a bund wall

Recommended Posts

A bund or bunded wall is one that surrounds a container or several containers such that if any or all leak, the contents are trapped within the wall. The wall must be of sufficient volume to contain all the fluid plus 10% minimum.

It is obviously vital that nothing at all can seep or flood into the ground and cause serious damage or poisoning of the water or drainage systems, rivers, streams, wells and plant life. And livestock etc.

It is usually used for containing fuel spillage or tank leaks in garages, industry, and homes with oil tanks.

It is a legal requirement, obviously.

We are trying to contain dilute soap and bleach based fluid spillage, in this instance. Again, ethics, conscience and the law prevents us from doing this until we can protect our surroundings correctly.

Opel Fruit.  To seal a bund wall just black jack the blocks and base then render,if you wish put in a water repellant in the cement. If a pipe or drain is to be installed a puddle flange must be fitted.Which is a flange welded on the pipe and rendered in between the render and the blocks to act as a barrier and seepage along the pipe, of course there must be a valve on the exterior.

I can also recommend SIKA products,we specify them regularly.SikaTop Seal 107 may be more appropriate as it states these can be applied to brickwork and blockwork. There are several products to choose from but you are best speaking to a technical rep to make sure you chose the correct one.You may find it easier to speak to a UK rep on the technical side, providing the products are the same in France !

ps please bear in mind these are rigid systems and the blockwork may crack/move due to temp changes,if the bund is large movement joints should have been installed.Alternatively there are flexible lining systems available.
