  1. I fully understand why naming and shaming is not allowed, however as a business based in the Morvan offering gardening, property maintenance and property find service it is equally difficult for me when these companies are not named. I have built up a very good reputation over the past 2 years and pride myself on the service I provide. There are also other business's offering the same type of service all with good reputations. Unfortunately we are all now tarnished by this one company.

  2. Hi

Has anyone tried this new and revolutionary system. I have downloaded a system of this sort and yes you do get pictures of a kind but not that good. It maybe that the computer I have "Dell" is not upto the task or my system  is not adequate. Any advice would be appreciated as I see that there is a simmilar system advertised on these pages at a pricey $67.00.

  3. Hi,

whilst I appreciate what you are saying this does not make it right. I know gassing foxes goes on and I also  know that badger hunting is still a great sport (which I detest) in UK even though it is BANNED!!

What I want to know is -is there an organisation who I can contact who may advise me if there is anything I can do.   I am going to try and find out if this "person" (and I use the word loosely) has indeed registered with the prefecture. If anyone can give me any further advice about this it would be much appreciated (by the way I am the person most concerned about this)

  4. Speaking from a position of total ignorance, can anyone help me with this question. We have a badger set at the end of the lane running next to our house. Today an armoured Chasse vehicle turned up the lane and dissapeared from sight. My wife, not very happy, took off up the lane in hot persuit and returned some minutes later to anounce that the Chasse intended to dig out the set and send the dogs in. My wife, really not happy, started plotting their downfall. Now, not one for rubbing up the armed locals the wrong way, what are the rules? I fully understand the regulations regarding hunting so I expect this falls outside the hunting regulations. Help please.

  5. Hi

The quote seems a bit high to me. What does the job entail. If you are having a wall demolished how thick is it, and what sort of finish are they applying. We live over the border in 58 and we wouldn't dream of paying as much as that. We have had a major renovation by registered artisans and the price just doesn't compare. Who is doing the work?

  6. Congratulations Alec.

I think its brilliant that you have stood your ground and won out over the desenters. I know that Chefs are particular who they share their secrets with but what is the recipe for your success and in particular the one for boiling heads.

  7. If there was anywhere on this site where I could advertise my 13.5 cv Briggs and Stratton ride on mower with 6 months warrenty remaining that has been regularly serviced and is in very good condition I would. Its the one I use on my 2500 m2 of land that takes me 45 minutes to cut. I leave my handbag in the house, but there is a hook.

  9. Hello Helene

We live near Chateau Chinnon which is just about halfway between Nevers and Autun. There is a fair group of Ex pats in the area but not what you would call a town full. Burgundy Friends is a good starting point with organised get togethers and social events. Without knowing where you intend to explore it is difficult to give a definative answer. It really is a big area.

  10. Hi Neale

We were in a similar situation, no leaks when it rained etc and were in the process of converting the loft.  Unfortunately, when the snow came, it also came into the attic, underneath the tiles and we had about 2 foot of snow upstairs.  We looked at different options to rectify this but decided that it had to be done properly as there is no point in spending a lot of money converting the upstairs unless the roof is sound, we are now having the whole roof redone.

If you would like to speak to us directly about this, we would be quite happy to recommend a good builder/roofer to you.  As you are probably aware the most important thing is to ensure that any artisans that you use are fully registered and insured.  We, personally, always ask to see other work that the artisan has completed, although the best recommendations are always through 'word of mouth'.

    Good luck with your project.

  11. Hi Mr C

My wfe and I moved to 58 in April last year with the promise of work from an established company who advertised for teams to work in the region under their umberella. After a few months we decided we would be better going it alone and we now have  a client base which is more than enough for the two of us. Our main business is looking after holiday homes, gardening, cleaning, and small DIY type of jobs. Anything big is left to the professionals. There is more than enough work in  the area and if you are handy at that sort of thing it won't take you long to get started. If you are skilled in roofing then there is enough work to keep you going and I can put you in touch with a builder who is in despirate need at the moment. You will of course need to register as a buisness and there is ample help for you to do that. I think the advise regarding testing the water is good but if you are determined  you will be OK. If you want to contact me direct please do so and I can give you more infomation.

  12. The right to choose is exactly why volunteers from all over the world signed on to take on the aggressors of the time. They didn't fight for the right of anyone to say that they could live or have any say over any particular area of the world. I have fought for my Country my father and his father fought for their Country, it gives us no rights over anyone or any country. Members of our famillies have fallen not because of any personal gain but because it was the thing to do at that particular time. I am offended that people think that wars and conflicts are fought by armed services in the hope of personal glory or gain. I get really fed up with comments from various sources that have no idea of the pain that is suffered by members of the armed forces especially when they are made from a position of safety and comfort. In WW1 our soldiers suffered extream conditions, they fought when asked and mostly without complaint. So did the French,Canadians, Germans,Americans,Indians,Africans,Australians,Belgians,Dutch and many many more which is why it was a World War. What rights do their famillies have in other countries?........ Freedom comes to mind. The right to choose to go where they want in the world and when they want. I know that there are places still closed to our way of thinking, but isn't that what Adolf and Sadam said................

  13. Thanks for your input, but with a name like gluestick it doesn't I have to wonder about your advice, (only joking). Its very interesting what you have said and it all makes sense, however I have found a company in the UK which dispells most if not all of your arguement. I am awaiting material from them so that I can investigate this method of further. I fully agree with you that if a roof is in need of a major rebuild then the only option would be to rebuild it. In my case the roof is sound but we had some snow ingress when we had a bit of a blizzard, to repair that would be very expensive so I am looking for a cheaper but quality option. In the end I may have to replace it but not until I have persued all  the avenues and allyways........that reminds me of a song.

  14. Getting back to the coffins I all ways find it a waste of good material to just bury it. Why not visit a local garage and ask if you can recycle the used engine oil left over from the services carried out on the vehicles that they service. Then soak the dead bird in the oil prior to incarceration in the coffin. This,if you pardon the pun, will kill two birds with one stone. You could advertise as a micro enterprise providing a crematorium service for dead birds and having got the buisness sell them off as firelighters.

  15. I have been told that the seller of a second hand car in France is responsible for the road worthyness of the vehicle and if there is a breakdown the seller has to repair or refund costs. I can't believe this to be true but nothing would surprise me. I know that to sell a vehicle it has to have a Carte Grisse with at least 6 months remaining. Now its your turn.
