1. Hi, we are currently booked overnight tonight on Britanny Ferries Portsmouth-Caen, planning to drive down in one day on Thursday to the Languedoc. Having just seen in the news about the strike tomorrow, we are worried that we will have problems getting fuel. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether the motorway services would be affected?  (the news says that supermarkets, and presumably their petrol stations will be closed). We are thinking maybe we should try and switch to a day later if possible - but then there might be problems with the ferry crossing! Amanda
2. Thanks for all the amazingly quick and helpful replies!  I am SO glad I found this forum!!! Amanda
3. Hi mattjazz - sounds like it.  What I have seen in the UK are large boards (8ft x 4ft I'm guessing) which are laminate on the front and are allegedly waterproof for you to use in showers/bathrooms etc.  Apparently you can put them over existing tiles - which sounds appealing!  When you used your boards, were you pleased with the effect?  And how straightforward was it to fit them? Amanda
4. Thanks Keni! I've just had a look at their website, but for the life of me I can't see anywhere that lists where the Lapeyre stores are! Does anyone know if there is one in the Montpellier/Beziers area? Amanda
5. Thanks, that was quick!  Think it will have to be Darty, our house is between Beziers and Montpellier, and it looks as if there is one in each of those areas, whereas the closest Boulanger seems to be in Nimes. Amanda
6. Are there any equivalents of chain stores in France like Curries, which specialise household electrics? So far I've only come across these kinds of things in the Supermarches, and in BUT. Thanks, Amanda
7. Hi, does anyone know if these are sold by any of the DIY chains in France? (they are waterproof boards that you can use instead of tiling). Thanks.
8.
France telecom may well connect you before you move. I got connected by doing everything from Britain   have a look at their website.   Good luck   John
Hello John, we have just bought a second home in France that previously had a telephone line connected, and would like to get it reconnected for us to use, and also to add internet broadband.  I'm sure our immobilier also told us that we could organise it all from the UK, but having just had a look at the France Telecom/Orange website I am baffled!  Could you point me in the right direction please - what actually should I be looking for on their site in order to get the line changed over to us?  Thanks in advance for your advice. Amanda
9. Hello - Is it possible to use UK purchased electrical items (a tumble dryer, TV for example) in France?  Would they work OK?  If so, I assume you could put a french plug on the wires to avoid having to keep using adaptors?  Would be grateful for any advice!  Thanks, Amanda
10. Could anyone recommend a reliable English-speaking pool installer in the Languedoc?  Thanks in advance.
