We recently had 3 huge trees taken down. It cost 1100€. we now have two huge piles of shreddings to get rid of. I understand that the cost would have been considerably more except that they had a use for the main trunks and took away the smaller branches. One guy told us that it costs 40€ a ton to dispose of wood and there was at least 6 tons. Get a few quotes as they vary enormously. Our company describes themselves as "arboristes grimpeurs" They used climbing gear and short chain saws. Only a job for the young and very fit!
I cannot understand why making 'proper' gravy is so much hassle... Meat juices in the roasting tin tin or frying pan stir in cornflour add the water from any of the vegetables you are cooking out on the hob stir whilst it thickens & add a dash of gravy browning and voila.... PROPER gravy it isnt rocket science cheaper than those grim gravy granules as quick and much better tasting
I find that French meat is so lean and takes such a short time to cook that there is very little by way of fat and what about gravy for other things than roasts?

Sorry if I am going over old ground but does not the tontine clause only cover actual property, i.e. house and is their not a fairly low amount to which it applies?

We , well MOH actually drilled 36 16mm holes for our pool fence through exterior grade ceramic and we used two of the diamond cutting drills.

Try www.365drills.com They sell diamond drills which are excelent for very hard ceramic tiles. Good prices and quick delivery

Not received that one but a couple of times I have received a Chasse de France - or something similar. Same idea as sending you three months issues of Which in the UK. No problem, If you like it you can subscribe if not bin it.

Why bother trying to organise exchanges on this site. We exchange through Green Theme International (mods please delete if I am not allowed to quote the name) Specialist companies who of course keep info on their clients could be accessed by forum members. The cost is only £25 the first year and £20 on renewal. We have had no problems and I have developed a standard refusal letter as we have had so many enquiries. We are off to Dublin next week to get a fix of life before the onset of the French winter.

Surely that is not new? MOH paid a speeding fine online in 2005. Also I think that you get a small rebate for paying online but I am not sure.

Son hired a car here last week. No hi viz jackets or warning triangle and no spare just the kit. Whose responsability is it? Should he have eaten into his valuable Ryanair baggage allowance for the jackets and triangle?

The French don't realy do gravy. If I want some for the sausage and mash (essential) I use stock cubes and a product called Maizana sauceline - sauces brun. It is a mix of cornflour and rice flour and can even be added direct to boiling liquids without going lumpy.

Plenty of hotels provide internet access - one in Toulouse charging €5 for 20 min! Surely they must have thought through this scenario

OK If you are going to be picky it should be ill-informed.

I am astonished. I am looking at a copy of the code de la route and roundabouts are supposedly approached in the same manner as they are in the UK. How on earth do driving schools and testers not know this?

It's the way they're taught to drive!!! Our daughter passed her test in June - she had to do some really diabolical driving to get through the test!!! She did the Conduite Accompagne so we taught her how to drive properly and safely. However, she had to forget all that for the 45 minutes of her test!!!! Even she now criticises the French drivers (in gerneral, of course!!!)

What sort of bad driving did she have to do? I am fascinated. Did she have to drive around the outside of an island even if she was taking the last exit? That one always makes MOH swear.

The one in question will skirt the north of Brive and make it a lot easier to geto Tulle, Malemort etc. The congeston in this part of town is not of UK standards but fortunately there is the room to do something about it.

We have used bleach - by accident- . We put the pool cover on the lawn to dry before packing it away. The .r esult was brown grass but I cannot say exactly how effective it as we are trying to remedy the action.

You will get a guarantee usually 12 months. However, you must have the actual guarantee document or in the case of smaller items the till receipt. You must also have the original packaging. Our grenier is full of packaging. Ther is no automatic right to a replacement. If it can be fixed they will fix it.

I am a bit concerned that the Sidalls info regarding changes to the reserved heir in Jan 2007 are not reflected in the notaires de france site. Further a few years ago we both signed gifts between spouses which our notaire assured us was the best way to go. How can anyone be sure that even the info from a notaire is correct.

You really have to know what you are doing to be strictly veggie. I recall something to do with eating two types of food in the same meal so you got necessary amino acids. Far to complicated for me.

And Shakespeare, on the whole, was Double Dutch to me when I was in school. Mind you, I rather enjoy reading the odd sonnet now and again just for the beauty of the language.
"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?[:D]" Fantastic!

You are so right. I didn't like Dickens when I was young. Now I wonder why Oliver Twist hasn't been remade in an up to date situation. Drugs instead instead of thieving. Shakepeare - I did Julius Ceasar for 'O' level and it had such depth. It was incredible that it had been written at that time

Well "beware of ancient greeks bearing gifts" sort of loses it don't you think?

I have been hearing some tales about newcomers being befriended and given lots of help(communications with utilities, banks and translations etc) followed by a bill. I have no problem with this as long as it is known up front. If someone is too nice to you make sure that you understand whether payment is expected.

So, do you insist on opening the box and having the 'whatever' verified as functioning? On the other hand never accept a box that has been opened. I once bought a vacuum which had no extension tube. The store manager was less than helpful pointing out the details of what parts there were was 'selon model'. Noone bigger than a six year old could have used the vacuum in confort.Another time I looked inside an open box and the scales inside were not the model they were supposed to be. Suppose I had bought them. Do you think that Weldom would have said "sorry here is the correct one"?

I thought that this sounded good but the reviews on Amazon were not so hot. Apparently there are no genders with the words and no pronunciation. The DS is perfectly capable of sound so I suprised that those capabilities have not been used. A few years ago I knew someone with a PC based French course that not only had pronunciation but insisted that it could not understand you until your pronunciation was correct! Has anyone heard of this? My vocabulary is fair but my pronunciation !
