Direct Debits and how to rob your bank account.
rustic replied to Gastines2's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
I do not live in France, I read these forums (fora?) as I find them interesting, having often visited on holidays. With my bank in England, I can cancel a direct debit on line, which would simplify the house-moving process, in that it lets the account-holder control withdrawals to some extent. I had assumed this was now the practice in Europe, however it would appear not the case. -
Interesting conversation with neighbours

On our annual family holidays to Brittany, I have often noticed the large quantities of fish and seafood on sale in the supermarkets. I know that 'the fishing' is big in Brittany, but I do wonder if all the stock gets sold. There is often a lot left at closing time as well. Does seem expensive as well. -

I have been told by some that a yellow vest is now required for driver and all passengers. Anyone else heard of this?

A general question on radios, is France intending to shut-down FM broadcasting in favour of Digital in a few years time? I had meant to check this out while in Normandie recently, but forgot. There is a move to DAB radios in UK, but many are not very good. I am interested in what may be happening in other parts of the EU on this, if anything. I have noticed when driving in France, there does seem a good selection of stations judging by what the 'auto-tuning' of the car radio finds, when compared to the UK.

Had a holiday in Normandie at Easter, around Granville, in the coastal area. On the journey home, I noticed to the south side of the N15 about 6km west of Yvetot, is some industrial operation, which appears to burn wood and sawdust as a fuel. Anyone know what this site produces? I could not see any information signage at all. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=49.610988,0.667806&spn=0.015545,0.050554&t=h&z=15

I have been informed, that it is not possible to be employed in France, if you are French, once you are drawing a company or state pension, but it is OK to be self-employed, or to start a company. Is this in fact correct? Whether this applied to non-French folks, they did not know. I had never heard of this before at all, but should clarify if I'm thinking of retiring there. Any advice appreciated.

Does anyone have a name / contact for motorcycle hire in the Clermont-Ferrand area please? May be visiting that area next year, by car with family, and was wondering about perhaps hiring a bike for a few days. Any advice appreciated, thank you.
