I hope someone can answer my hypothetical question... If I rent a property in the UK (which i live in as a normal UK resident) but happen to own a property in France. If i then rent out the property in France to holiday makers, am I expected to pay tax in France or the UK? If so does anyone know roughly how much? Thanks P

Evening everyone, I am about to complete the purchase of a holiday home/rental apartment in Nice. As I'm still a UK resident with no immaediate intentions of moving to France. I was wondering if people new of how I could go about finding some kind of local service which would a) Clean up and wash laundry after guests leave. b) Be a point of contact in an emergency. Does anyone have any recommendations in Nice for this kind of service? Thanks

OK i think i understand the situation ...so asuming the agents fee is factored into the 150,000€ price. You would need 15% deposit for the mortgage - 22,500€ You would also need to find an extra 8% for the notaires -12,000€ However the 10% deposit (15,000€) could be paid with the 135,000€ loan/mortgage you have taken. Correct? I was getting confused with all the differing types of fees.    

Thanks for all the replies... Some Estate agents already factor in their percentage into the House price -is that correct? Obviously this is something you would have to check before agreeing a price. With regards the example above - when you say "you have to pay the remainder of the purchase price (135,000€) ".....is that correct? Where does the 135,000 arrive from? Sorry if I'm being thick, I've done a lot of reading into this and probably confused myself.  

Hello, I understand that for a UK resident to purchase a property (via a mortgage) in France, the max LTV rate is 85%. I also understand that a UK resident has to pay the 8% notaire fees as cash - rather than include this in the mortgage. My question is can the 10% deposit (due when the compromis de vente is signed) be part of your mortgage, or is this also due in cash? An example would be purchasing a property worth E150,000; I would need  a min. of E22,500 as a deposit (15% of 150,000) plus an extra E12,000 (8% of 150,000) ....but would i require a further cash payment of E15,000 as part of the deposit? Or can this be included in the actual mortgage?   Thanks for your help...

Morning Everyone, I am researching the possibility of buying a small property in the Nice/Antibes area. I was wondering if there is much room for negotiation on property prices there? I know its a desirable area so that limits the opportunity to haggle. But i would be very interested to hear from people with experience in buying in this area. Any guidance or advice would be much appreciated.   Thanks, P

Afternoon all, This is my first post so i apologise if I have posted this in the wrong place. My Girlfriend and I are planning to move to the Cote d'azur area on France this year. I work in IT and she is fluent in french. I know that Sophia Antipolis (near Nice and Antibes) has a large business park with IT related jobs. I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of this industry in this area of France. Are there a steady supply of jobs? How do Salaries compare to the UK? Where are the popular places to live for working ex-pats? Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, P
