  1. We have a similar walled pool area but, as I understand it, you must put a self-locking gate in place ie. one that returns automatically to its locked/closed position that cannot then be opened by a small child! However, I also think that this alone would not satisfy the AFNOR regs. if your wall is within a certain distance of the pool boundary. All very complicated and so I think (hope) that the solution is to fit a rigid pool cover (produced by a company called www.albiges.com for just under 2000 Euros...I have no connection whatsoever and would welcome anybody's experience if they have the same).

This would then allow you to have whatever gate you like and you would not even have to worry about the locking system.

Keep researching this forum as there are some excellent and knowledgeable people who can help through this very complicated piece of legislation.

PS. I think the wall needs only be 1.1 and not 1.2 high. Again, do check on this forum.

  2. Having read most of the stuff about pool security I'm considering buying a rigid pool cover for less than 2,000 Euros. I'm assured that it meets the new AFNOR regs. and I would not need any other form of security (no fences, alarms, etc). If anyone has experience of this cover made by www.albiges.com I would love to hear from you. (I have no connection with this company and was led to it through another forum).

Also, I'm surprised that a previous member has been advised that an alarm is all that they need. What happens if a child falls into the pool when the owners are away (ie. away from the alarm)? I would strongly urge your friends to research a bit further, especially through this forum, as I understand that an alarm would NOT satisfy the regs.

  3. Hi Keith

You've probably got someone by now and I may not be what you're looking for anyway BUT...I'm a pro keyboard/guitar/vocal entertainer, which basically means I'm a "jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none"! Most of my stuff is covers where I go out as a solo or with anything from a two-piece up to four-piece. Worked in the south of France for four years so have some French stuff up my sleeve too.

Our house is just south of Felletin and we will be there for the whole of August. Haven't decided to move permanently yet as too much work in UK, but looking into it! Will give you a call to see how the land lies!
