  1. My first year of attempting veggies and yesterday I picked 4lb of carrots, enough English runner beans for our dinner ( lots more on the plants ) eight onions and gave some of my lettuce to neighbours as too many for us. I am so pleased but must admit I did pick all your brains at various times so you can all have a pat on the back as well.
  2. I have family coming here on the 28th July and I desperately need to BORROW a car chair for a baby of eighteen months for one week. I really know nothing about car chairs but apparently it is a forward facing one that is needed with harness. Is there anyone within a 30 kilometre radious of Lezay dept 79 that could loan me one for a week. I would be eternally grateful .

  3. Hello Sid  Found the stables OK and they are going on Monday evening. It is a really lovely place and the cost was only 18 euros for one hour which they said was a lot cheaper than UK. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly so thank you, sid, for the info.  Panda, we were on holiday many years ago and Mr valb, who had been riding several times in England, decided to go with another member of our group to go riding. The ride was actually a gallop along a five mile stretch of sand and his legs were rubbed raw desperately trying to grip so that he did not fall off. Then on the way back to the stables they were taken through woodland and the gap at one point was very narrow but his horse decided not to wait for it's turn through the gap and tried to get through with another horse. Consequently, Mr valb was thrown over the top and landed very heavily on his rear end. He was not allowed to use the swimming pool for days as he had plasters all down his legs and could hardly sit down for days. However, he has decided to go with visitors on Monday for the ride...watch this space.
  4. I was sending a mail to my friend here in Frence and it was a little moan about someone in UK and it was a very mild moan. Yes, you have guessed it, I sent it to the person in UK.  A lot of grovelling and excuses on my behalf but all sorted now.  So always double check the mail address before you press send.

  5. I had a glut of strawberries this year in my garden. So many that we could not eat them fast enough and in so many different deserts. In the end I made jam and foze four big bags for winter puddings. So, they could be giving them away at present but I could not face another just yet. So mine were deifnately grown in France with no label on the bowl either.
  6. I have a couple of beef joints in my frezeer but now too warm for a roast dinner. If I slice uncooked what can I do to soften it ready to BBQ it as I normally cook beef for hours in the oven. Any form of marinade I could use prior to putting it the BBQ to help it cook better.
  7. Yes our vet has numerous adverts for rehoming animals. Please do not condemn people before the whole picture has been explained.....hindsight is a marvelous thing and none of us know what the future may hold. Instead why not try constructive advice for someone who is obviously an animal lover otherwise she would not be in this predicament
  8. If you could see the distance I have to walk to get from veggies to the loo, Christine, who could blame me. I have been trying to tinkle in my compost container like the French men do but it is too tall and I am scared of falling in it. I could be there for weeks before  OH misses me.
  9. Thank you all for your kind words. She has just wobbled into the garden to have a tinkle and has had a slight nibble at her dinner although we did not expect her to be that bothered but the vet said to try her with some. I now have to get try her with some tablets but if past experience is anything to go on, I will probably have to crush them, mix in a little water and syringe down her throat as she is a b***er for taking tablets, she just spits them straight out again. Even the vet could not get her to swollow them and he had a gadget he used as well. Once again...Thank you all for your support.
  10. Just to let you know we have just collected a very wobbly little girl from the vets. She is feeling very sorry for herself and has her long floppy ears taped to the top of her head and a small collar on as well. Lots of antibiotics and instructions as what not to do and what to do from the vet. If everything goes OK she has the stitches out in ten days time. I was so worried this morning I weeded all my strawberries to keep occupied now I ache like mad.
  11. Thank you Panda, that has helped me a lot. The vet did not want to give her a general and originally thought a local would be OK but he now has changed his mind. He is a superb vet and she was gravely ill a couple of years ago and was in his surgery for five days and he even called in to check her every day he was on holiday. Also, Thank you Ysatis...If you are who I think you are, you have known her for many years both in UK and here in France.

  12. Thank you all for your replies and it is reasuring to know that other elderly animls have problems as well. We have had numerous rescue dogs over the years but I can honestly say she has been the best dog we have ever had. Age is so cruel as she is almost blind, arthritic and partially deaf but she still runs around the garden wagging her little tail.  She is top dog where our French rescue Labrador is concerned and he loves her but will always back off when she tells him to.
