  1. Don't go for Asda processed peas. I brought back 24 tins and they were like Chick peas because Asda have gone very healthy and removed all additives, even the water they are in is grey.  Being a skinflint I am still using them and they don't even taste like processed peas so I will be glad when I have used them all.  Tesco's next time I think but I will check the tin before I buy.  To the previous thread, No I am not that Valb...I come from the West Country  OOOH  ARRR  "  E make I laugh E do.

  2. I think we have deviated from BORED  to ISN'T IT GREAT.  What will OH do next week when he has to prize himself away from the box. I was told not to put the cleaner around this morning so I just said " go forth and multiply ".  We now have a clean house after all his tuts and sighs.

  3. I never let myself run low on hair laquer, hair dyes or any toiletries that are far more expensive over here. Apart from my Asda run in UK I always have a Boots/Superdrug run as well.  We have a lot of visitors each year and if I find I am running low they normally don't mind bringing me a few bits. As I do not like garden peas and the French peas taste like them I always bring back tins of...wait for it....PROCESSED PEAS..yummy. Yes, be mortified if you like but that is just me, also, packets of dried mushy peas as well.
  4. This will probably stir up a hornets nest but I think the general public have a right to know if a child molester is in their midst. I know I would have been mortified if I had found out I lived close to someone who could harm my children. Yes, I know it could set off a witch hunt but our childrens safety comes first at all times.  Prevention is better than cure.
  5. We have no choice as all the family live in the west country so it is Roscoff to Plymouth everytime. A six and a half crossing and also a five and a half hour drive to Roscoff so flying is sometimes the best option. We sometimes hire a car in UK at Bristol airport and it still works out cheaper than the ferry taking the cost of fuel into consideration on this side of the water as well.
  6. Likewise, I have only ever shopped for groceries once a week as I hate it and I always have a list otherwise I would forget half of what I went for. OH is not supposed to eat too many crisps and biscuits so that is not a problem and I can live without them. I always bring loads of cheese back from UK as OH does not like soft French cheeses but once Cheddar is frozen it does not cut very well, crumbly. We have our big car and a cheapo French one so we use that most of the time unless we have visitors then we have to use both but they put the fuel into which ever one they are using. They look at us in total surprise when we do not offer to pay for both cars but what the heck, they are all still earning a salary and I feed them for nothing. I also watched the programme about the waste of food in UK and the presenter worked with one family and managed to save them over £3,000 per year on their food bill. I do not waste anything, left over veggies...bubble and squeak, left over bread...bread pudding and so on. Tight as a ducks a..e thats me.

  7. We do have a plug in cool box but I have always been concerned about it all starting to defrost. Probably could not wang it all in a freezer before we travelled back here as we always stay with family and usually their freezers are full, so that would be a problem. The only things I miss are frozen Yorkshire puds and frozen roast potatoes for when I am being lazy, which does not hurt now and again. I can never get my roasties that crispy over here and I have tried everything. My Yorkies are ok as I always have English flour in my cupboards. There is a frozen food shop in Niort called Picards, good selection but not that cheap and obviously do not do the things I would buy in UK.  I stock up with Corn on the Cob there as it is difficult to get over here and we love it. Last time we went I bought twelve packs of three but visitors soon demolished them all, twelve of us for a week. I may have a go at brining some frozen bits back when we go again and see what happens...watch this space.
  8. Yes, I bake bread and make pies, pasties, fishcakes, fish in beer batter and so on. I thought retirement was going to be relaxing but between weeding and cooking it is all go, go , go. I drean of walking around Asda and just filling up my trolley as no matter what they are saying I still find the prices there amazing compared with here when I go back and do my " asda run "   Also Iceland are very good as well but cannot bring frozen food back with me.
  9. I agree totally, Callie, as I have a veg plot and I do most of it on my own as OH thinks it is a waste of time and reluctantly digs it over for me. He then goes into raptures of glee when I have hundreds of Strawberries, pounds of Runner beans, my first Broccoli was eaten last night at dinner, pounds of onions ( French onion soup for lunch today ) amazed how many carrots we had when the area was dug over and so on. I would have planted so much more but could not get OH to finish the digging as he was " far too busy " doing .....what ? He is not a gardener and thinks all it involves is cutting grass so I do not know who he thinks does all the weeding and taking cuttings  etc. Yes, I will still do it next year and I hope to grow Corn on the Cob and watch  him slap the butter and lemon pepper in it whilst bragging to friends how " we " grow our own.
  10. How can any one say Abba are " Cheesy " Their music is still going strong and always used to get a party moving. I defy any one to listen to their music and not feel happy and start foot tapping. I have always been a very big fan and even youngsters nowadays admit to liking them. Yes, the costumes were OTT but then we are going back quite a few years and were OK at the time. I will look forward to buying the DVD when it comes out and to all of you who are lucky enough to see it now...enjoy.
  11. Thank you all for the replies and I will also put some straight into the ground as well as in pots. Hopefully some will survive as I think it is a lovely plant.
  12. It is all very well saying " don't watch it " but what happens when one is addicted to it and the other cannot stand it.  OH is obssesed with it and I am getting angrier and angrier as I am sick of it being on from early morning until we go to bed. We have a small prtable TV in the kitchen and he stands about 2 " away from it for hours on end. He is almost inside the TV and I honestly cannot understand how anyone can be that interested. Another  16 days to go  URGHHHHHHH !!!!!!  we will be divorced by then.

  13. Many thank Guardian, Gosh it does sound very complicated and when you refer to "you " do you mean me or my son. I get the immpression I have to do all this and it probaby would be better for them to marry in UK and then just come here for the knees up. I will talk to them and see what they think but once again thank you for going to all this trouble.
  14. We have an empty house door to us and it has the most beautiful Lavertera going beserk. It is hanging all over the fence into the road so I am going to take some cuttings of it. Only snag is I do not know how to do that properly so all you clever gardeners out there give me some help.
  15. Our son has just announced that he would like to get married here in France but they live in UK. He has asked me to find out what they need to do to make this possibe. I have checked the previous threads here but I am getting very confused and what I need is an idiots guide from start to finish. I do not think it will be possible as he seems to think I can sort it out here and then they just come over and get married. He was also talking of a wedding around our lake in the open air as obviosly in UK people can marry where they want now but I have never heard of this here. I would be most appreciative if anyone can give me a step by step guide to any of this and what both me and our son would have to do and what documentation they would need. I have almost a year to sort this out but have not a clue where to start. I will look forward to hearing from anyone who has had some experience in doing this.
  16. Well done to you as well. Yes, I love pottering around the veggies and a friend of mine in UK refers to them as my babies. We have water butts but unfortunately not close enough to water veg so we do use the hose as it would take far too long to walk up and down with watering can. I also have a small herb garden and have great delight in picking my own Parsley, Chives, Rosemary, Fennel and Tyme. Tomatoes had a bad start as I had to treat them with a Borderlaise solution but they are growing well now although not many flowers on them so not sure it they will come up trumps.  Keep digging Mrs Postie  !!!!!!
  17. We have a very old Cocker lady and I can honestly say she has been the best dog we have ever had and we have had a lot of rescue dogs over the years. She is obedient, very loving and such a gentle little girl. So, please, someone out there take a chance with this gorgeous lady...she is beautiful. If our lady was not in ill health at present due to her  13 years I would take her but not fair on Molly as she has enough to contend with with Murphy the labrador who is only two and a half.
