  1. I need to buy some wood stain for the exterior but I want one with a preservative in it. Does anyone know what to look for and where to purchase it. I have tried the local Mr Bricolage to no avail and would rather not waste time going from shop to shop. So if anyone can help that would be great as windows and doors are starting to look a bit sad.
  2. We paid all our taxes while working in UK and we still pay tax on our pensions in the UK. So instead of having a pop at us here in France have a go at all the lazy ones who have no intention of working in the UK and I am not talking about the poor people who have recently lost jobs. I am talking about the " bad back " brigade. They are the leeches not us here in France.
  3. So this is what it is all about, jelousy, men who served for half their lives in the Military coming out with a pension then having the audcity to come to France. Well, this will really p**s you off. My husband has a Naval pension as he served for 24 years in Submarines chasing the Russians out of our waters. Also, my eldest son has a small war pension as his leg was shattered in the Falklands War so what a despicable family we are. But at least my eldest son is still living in the UK  so we are not totally decadent. Get a life and get over it Dog.  OH yes, my Father was deaf due to the awful geovernment forcing him to join the Army in the second world war protecting the UK from invasion and he was on ak ak guns and he did not see me for three years but he did not get a pension or come to France to live so he must have been an OK guy in your eyes.
  4. Dog,

PAID KILLERS !!!!! We have always had the armed forces and thank goodness we did in the first and second wold wars otherwise you would not be sat there now with your smug pathetic attitude. My youngest son is a Royal Marine and has fought in Iraq and Afghanistan and NOT beacause that was the only job he could do. He left school with ten GCSE's and then college with two A levels but still wanted to join the service.  He is now a sergeant and very well repected and like all the armed forces are there to help keep the likes of an idiot like you safe in this sad world we live in. You really are a most offensive person and I would suggest that unless your comments are constructive that you should refrain from entering into any discussion.  I sincerely hope that one day you do not need these Paid Killers to protect you, your family or your home as then they will be our brilliant servicemen to people  like you. You have made me so angry, Dog, your attitude truly stinks/

  5. I do not understand the folk in the UK, if you are all against the war in Afghanistan why are you ALL sitting on your backsides and moaning. For a country that is almost on its uppers can they really support the billions this war is costing.  For goodness sake have the gumption to make a stand or if not  stop all the whinging.
  6. I must admit, Dog, I have noticed a lot of your comments on various other sections of this forum. No one expects you to agree with every point of view and that would be boring as we like a debat but you do seem hell bent on offending people at times. Are you so bored with your life that is the only way you can generate any form of excitement. Please participate but in a more genial way.
  7. Dog, I am sure most people think the war is a waste of time but as long as our lads are being sent there and are being killed for the privalige  that is why people want to have them marching to a band as a big sign of respect. Yes, I am sure they have lots of other things to do and unlike a lot of young men in UK do not sit on the dole watching TV and mugging people. I appreciate you have a point of view but please be a litle more sensitive to others on this forum who are more involved in the situation. My Granddaughters husband is out there and she is six months pregnant with their first child and lives in constant fear of " that knock on the door ". He was on  a patrol that killed two of his  friends so I think  a march and a band is the least they can expect.
  8. Everyone has a right to free speach but to do this in front of the troops who are only doing their job is despicable. A protest to the government would probably have carried more weight and antagonised no one. I agree that this war in Afghanistan is a futile one and I for one have reasons to be against it having family members out there at this moment in time but our lads are trying to do the best job they can. I am sure none of the lads really want to be there and would rather be at home with their families and I totally dissagree that the  government quoting "Protecting Queen and Country" as the UK does not have an impending threat of invasion from the Taliban. The severe terrorist threat  to the UK has only taken place since the illegal war in Iraq. I do feel so sorry for most Musims as they live in fear when a minority do things like this.
  9. Alledgedly, it has now increased to over 400 people. Every test imaginable has been conducted on the meals, some have been tested more than once and although it has been discounted, I do wonder about sabotage.  Maybe it was a normal stomach virus and that is being talked about now as not everyone ate the same food.  Very strange.
  10. I am not sure it is the same as English Puff Pastry as it does not look the same in the picture on the box.  I am sure someone who used it told me they were not too happy with the result.  That is why I wondered if I would have to modify it in some way but the Nigella recipe looks OK to me and when I get to Picards I will buy some frozen packs. So all in all I am sorted thanks to you all.
  11. On hearing this my OH thinks he has died and gone to heaven.  A trip to our nearest NOZ is now scheduled asap. Maybe now we will not have to bring half of Tesco's supply back with us  each time we drive to UK.  What other interesting things do they have and does it change on a regular basis as that is one thing that annoys me here. I find things I like but it seems some of the time once they have sold out the do not re stock again.
  12. Oh Bernice,  You are a star. Yes we have one about half  an hour from us but I have never really looked for it there. I normally get my frozen  Corn on the Cob from them. Is it still called  the same as the pre made packs in the Supermarket ?  I know Iam being very lazy but between the bread, pies, soups, fish cakes and numerous other things I make here I am allowed to cheat now and again.  [:D]
  13. Many thanks, Clair, for those recipes and I thought the Puff Pastry one looked very easy comapred to the ones I have tried in the past. Scooby, I have not found any frozen pastry here yet only pre made ones in the chiller cabinet.  It would make my life a lot easier if I could find frozen but never mind.
  14. I normally make all my  own pastry so I am just being lazy. I understand the French ready made Puff Pastry is Pate Feuilletee so I was wondering if anyone has used it and would I need to do anything to it if it is not the same as Englsih pastry. I don't mind adding more butter and re rolling a couple of times as it would still be quicker than making it from scratch.  Any ideas on this ?
