  1. Visitors are cleaning the hull out of my house. I did it before they arrived, apparently it is not enough. Who the heck does more than pass the vacuum cleaner under the beds.

I shall emigrate to grubbier climes!
  2. Extraordinary debate.

Boris ( for whom I do not carry a torch), reacts to this new strain of covid in the only sensible way he could, by shutting everything down. On the advice of the scientists.

He understood that the population was getting fed up but what else could he do, let the virus run rampant through the country which may happen anyway thanks to those clowns who decided to ‘get away’ for a few days, knowing of the danger.

Please tell me what else he could have done, given that covid is leading the dance?
  3. The cost of medicines to governments is always pretty opaque but here is a link to a list of prices which some Belgian minister poster online. It was quickly withdrawn as the drug companies were furious:

This is the list of what the EU is paying:

    Oxford/AstraZeneca: €1.78 (£1.61).

    Johnson & Johnson: $8.50 (£6.30).

    Sanofi/GSK: €7.56.

    Pfizer/BioNTech: €12.

    CureVac: €10.

    Moderna: $18.

  4. How am I supposed to know if I have been near an infected person? They dont wear labels or badges or wear big signs round their necks. One has a test to make sure, surely?
  5. Chessie, I have some indirect experience of psychotic illness as my late ex-wife went through many years of it which put huge strain on my kids and me as listener and adviser.

Let rip if you want to.If ypu dont, you will go nuts. There are loads of good folk on here who can offer ‘ listening ‘and good pointers as to ways forward.

For what it is worth, I think it is essential that you involve others now, both professionals and family as your husband is getting beyond your ability to care for him, is putting you and himself in danger and will eventually break you down physically and mentally.

I think you will find that doing this will provide you with immediate soulagement, a sense that a burden shared is a burden halved, so to speak. And should provide you with ways forward in terms of care and treatment.

    And do involve the family.

  6. Touch wood, my Xmas has been saved. My daughter and grandson can come, they can’t stop her. That is the opinion of a seniot commissaire de police and a judge ( they are friends and former neighbours of hers).

But they will have to go back on Boxing day so they can quarantine and boyo wont miss more than a day of school.
  7. The following are almost or already extinct I wonder if their names had anything to do with it?

the Chiriqui harlequin frog, which has not been recorded since 1996 despite extensive searches,; the wizened harlequin frog, not recorded since 1986 ; and craugostor myllomyllon, which has no common name and is known only from a single female specimen collected in 1978.
